Description
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL Dubai WiFi 6 DSL Firewall
One box for firewall, WiFi 6 and DSL backup
A small Dubai branch doesn’t always have space for a rack, a separate DSL modem, a WiFi controller and a firewall. It might be a clinic in JLT, a retail counter in Deira, a DMCC office with 30 staff, or a temporary project office running on an Etisalat or du line. The network still needs inspection. Not just NAT and basic routing.
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is built for that kind of site. It combines a Fortinet next generation firewall, integrated WiFi 6, DSL RJ11, 5 × GE RJ45 ports and FortiGuard security services in one desktop appliance. Less cabling. Fewer power adapters. Easier branch rollout.
The sizing figure that matters is the pair: 5 / 5 / 4 Gbps firewall throughput and 1.1 Gbps threat protection throughput. The first number shows raw firewall speed. The second tells you what happens when IPS, application control, antivirus and web filtering are turned on. For Dubai buyers, that’s the honest way to size it.
Branch firewall sizing note
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is a good fit for roughly 10–75 users, depending on the traffic mix, inspection profile and WAN speed. For a small office using Etisalat Business or du Enterprise Internet, size the firewall using the 1.1 Gbps threat protection figure, not the raw firewall figure alone.
Product overview
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is the WiFi and DSL variant of the FortiGate 50G family. It suits offices where the WAN handoff is mixed: fibre on RJ45 for the main connection, DSL for backup, and local wireless for staff or guest access. A normal firewall can do the routing. This unit also removes the need for a separate branch WiFi box in many small deployments.
The appliance includes 1 × GE RJ45 WAN port, 3 × GE RJ45 LAN ports, 1 × GE RJ45 FortiLink default port, 1 × DSL RJ11 port, USB, RJ45 console and external antenna connectors. The wireless side supports WiFi 6 with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, 2 × 2 MU-MIMO, up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz.
Use it for branch sites that need firewall inspection, VPN, SD-WAN path control, wired LAN, DSL support and WiFi in a single desktop device. Business Bay consultancies, JAFZA sales offices, DAFZA service counters and small DIFC operations often want exactly that: one security appliance that doesn’t need a full rack or heavy cooling.
Built-in DSL and WiFi 6
The DSL port supports VDSL2, ADSL2, ADSL2+, G.DMT, T1.413 and G.Lite with Annex A, B, I, J, M, L. The WiFi 6 radio supports dual-band operation with 3 external antenna connectors. That makes it useful for branch designs where DSL is still used as a backup link, or where the cabinet has no room for a separate access point.
FortiGuard licensing options
The hardware is the platform. The licence is the protection. Without FortiGuard, FortiWiFi 50G-DSL works as a stateful firewall, but the main security value comes from live FortiGuard services such as IPS signatures, web filtering categories, antivirus definitions, botnet protection and FortiSandbox Cloud.
For most UAE branch deployments, the usual choices are UTP Bundle and Enterprise Bundle. Both are available in 1-year and 3-year terms. A 1-year licence keeps the first purchase lower. A 3-year licence usually makes more sense for branch rollouts because the per-year cost is lower and renewal work is reduced.
FortiGuard Bundle Options
UTP Bundle includes IPS, Application Control, Web Filtering, Antivirus, FortiSandbox Cloud, and Botnet. Enterprise Bundle adds everything in UTP plus FortiCASB, FortiConverter, Industrial Security, and IoT Detection. Available in 1-year and 3-year terms for FortiWiFi 50G-DSL.
For Dubai offices with compliance checks in DMCC, DIFC or healthcare environments, don’t quote the unit as hardware only unless the buyer specifically asks for it. In real networks, users browse, download, click email links, use SaaS platforms and move between wired and wireless. That traffic needs inspection.
FortiGuard licence not included with hardware-only orders
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL hardware does not include active FortiGuard security services unless a bundle is ordered with it. IPS signatures, web filtering, antivirus definitions, botnet protection and FortiSandbox Cloud require a separate UTP or Enterprise bundle licence.

HA, VDOMs and branch continuity
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL supports Active-Active HA, Active-Passive HA and clustering. For small offices, that gives you a few design choices. A single appliance can use the GE WAN and DSL port for WAN failover. A pair can be used where the branch needs appliance redundancy as well. Not every site needs HA, but branch offices handling POS, finance, clinic systems or booking platforms should review it.
The unit supports 5 VDOMs. That’s useful when an MSSP or internal IT team wants to separate guest wireless, staff LAN, VPN users and a small server segment without buying a bigger firewall. It also supports up to 8 FortiSwitch units and 16 FortiAPs, with 8 in tunnel mode.
HA design note for UAE branches
For a single Etisalat or du circuit, start with dual WAN failover using RJ45 WAN and DSL if the business accepts one firewall appliance. For higher uptime, quote two FortiWiFi 50G-DSL units as an HA pair and align both FortiGuard licence terms. Active-Passive is usually easier to support for small branches.
For the wider Fortinet range, see the FortiGate firewall Dubai hub. It helps compare desktop models, rackmount appliances and FortiGuard bundles before locking the final branch standard.
Desktop deployment: where FortiWiFi 50G-DSL fits
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is a desktop firewall, not a rackmount appliance. That matters in Dubai branch networks where the “server room” is often a wall cabinet, a shelf above the printer, or a small IT cupboard near the Etisalat or du handoff. The unit’s low power draw and small footprint make it easier to place in clinics, tuition centres, retail shops, real estate offices and small free zone companies.
For 10–75 users, the design is simple: main WAN on GE RJ45, DSL as backup where available, LAN ports for local switching, WiFi 6 for staff or guest access, and FortiGuard services for inspection. A FortiSwitch can be added when the office grows. FortiAPs can be added when coverage needs more than the built-in radio.
This is not the model for a 250-user head office or a data centre edge. For that, move up to a rackmount FortiGate. But for a Business Bay office, DMCC flexi workspace, JAFZA sales counter or a DHA clinic branch, FortiWiFi 50G-DSL gives the right mix of firewall, wireless and DSL backup in one box.
FortiSP5 ASIC — why the 50G feels different
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is part of the G-Series generation with Fortinet SP5 security processing. In branch terms, that means strong inspection capacity inside a small desktop appliance: 1.1 Gbps threat protection, 2.25 Gbps IPS and 1.25 Gbps NGFW throughput while staying below 19 W maximum power. For Dubai offices where cabinet heat and power sockets are always a fight, that matters.
Upgrading from FortiGate 40F or 60F?
Many UAE branches already run FortiGate 40F or FortiGate 60F appliances. FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is not just a small refresh. It adds the G-Series SP5 platform, integrated WiFi 6, a built-in DSL port and a threat protection figure of 1.1 Gbps. That makes it attractive where the branch wants fewer devices and better inspected throughput.
The biggest change is consolidation. A typical old branch stack might use a firewall, DSL modem, access point and small switch. With FortiWiFi 50G-DSL, part of that stack can be collapsed into one appliance. It’s cleaner for small offices. Easier for MSSPs too, especially when they manage several branches across Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain.
Where the site already has structured cabling and multiple access points, a non-WiFi FortiGate 50G or a rackmount model may be the better fit. Where the site needs one compact device with DSL and WiFi 6 built in, this DSL variant makes more sense.

Dubai and UAE deployment context
In Dubai, small sites often grow faster than the original network plan. A two-room office in DMCC becomes a 25-user sales floor. A clinic adds cloud radiology access. A JAFZA warehouse adds barcode scanners and guest WiFi. The firewall bought only for NAT starts getting pushed into VPN, web filtering, wireless and SD-WAN work.
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is useful when the site needs a compact branch standard. Keep the GE WAN for fibre. Use DSL where the line is still part of the continuity plan. Run staff WiFi on the built-in WiFi 6 radio where coverage is modest. Add FortiSwitch or FortiAP later if the branch expands.
For DIFC, DMCC, healthcare, education and retail sites, quote the firewall with FortiGuard from day one. Hardware-only firewalling misses the main reason to buy a Fortinet appliance: inspection against web threats, malicious files, risky applications and botnet traffic.
Africa, GCC and MEA export from Dubai

FAQ
What is the threat protection throughput on the FortiWiFi 50G-DSL?
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL delivers 1.1 Gbps threat protection throughput. Raw firewall throughput is 5 / 5 / 4 Gbps, but the threat protection number is the safer sizing figure when IPS, application control, antivirus and web filtering are enabled.
Does FortiWiFi 50G-DSL support HA?
Yes. FortiWiFi 50G-DSL supports Active-Active HA, Active-Passive HA and clustering. For most small UAE branches, Active-Passive HA is the cleaner design when appliance redundancy is required.
What FortiGuard bundles are available for FortiWiFi 50G-DSL?
UTP Bundle and Enterprise Bundle are available in 1-year and 3-year terms. UTP includes IPS, Application Control, Web Filtering, Antivirus, FortiSandbox Cloud and Botnet. Enterprise adds FortiCASB, FortiConverter, Industrial Security and IoT Detection.
Is FortiWiFi 50G-DSL a rackmount firewall?
No. FortiWiFi 50G-DSL is a desktop firewall. It is designed for branch offices, retail outlets, clinics and small offices where there is no rack or where the firewall sits in a small wall cabinet.
How many VDOMs does FortiWiFi 50G-DSL support?
FortiWiFi 50G-DSL supports 5 VDOMs. That is enough for many branch designs where IT wants to separate staff LAN, guest WiFi, VPN and small server segments.
Why choose the FortiWiFi 50G-DSL instead of a separate firewall and access point?
It reduces the number of devices in a small branch. You get firewall inspection, WiFi 6, DSL RJ11 and GE RJ45 ports in one desktop appliance. For a 10–75 user office, that often means less cabling, fewer adapters and easier support.
