Description

APC SRT1500XLI 1500VA Online UPS Dubai

When a five-minute power dip can stop the whole rack

The internet line is fine. The firewall is fine. The switch is fine. Then the voltage drops for two seconds, the rack reboots, the ERP disconnects, the CCTV recorder loses recording continuity, and everyone asks IT why the office is down.

That is the moment where a small line-interactive UPS starts looking too light for the job. Dubai offices don’t always fail from long power cuts. More often it’s short voltage dips, generator changeover, overloaded DB boards, old building wiring, or a server room running too hot because the AC wasn’t sized for IT load. The hardware survives. The business still stops.

The APC Smart-UPS SRT1500XLI is built for that exact rack: one or two critical servers, firewall, core switch, NAS, NVR, PBX, Wi-Fi controller, access control server, or payment network equipment. It is a 1500VA / 1500W double-conversion online UPS, not a basic backup box. Same number on VA and watts. That matters. It means the UPS can support a real 1500W IT load when sized correctly, instead of hiding behind a lower watt rating.

What the SRT1500XLI is — and who should buy it

This is an online UPS for critical IT loads up to 1500 watts. It takes incoming AC power, converts it to DC, then converts it back to clean AC output. That double-conversion design means connected equipment is not exposed directly to the messy power coming from the wall. Voltage sags, spikes and frequency variation are handled before they reach the server PSU.

For a small Dubai server room, that is the difference between “we have backup power” and “the rack is protected properly.” A basic UPS may be enough for a desktop PC or one small router. It is not what we normally recommend for a production rack running accounting, clinic management software, hotel PMS, CCTV recording, access control, or a firewall handling Etisalat Business or du Enterprise internet links.

The buyer is usually practical. Not building a data centre. Not buying a 10kVA three-phase UPS. Just trying to stop a small but important rack from going down during short power events.

A clinic in Jumeirah running patient records and appointment systems. A trading company in Deira with one rack for firewall, server and NAS. A warehouse office in JAFZA where the ERP terminal and barcode system must stay online during a power flicker. A school admin office in Sharjah. A hotel back office in Business Bay with PBX, core switch and NVR in the same cabinet.

The SRT1500XLI fits these jobs because it is small enough to deploy in a normal 19-inch IT cabinet, but the electrical design is serious enough for equipment that should not see dirty power.

1500VA does not always mean 1500W — here it does

Many UPS buyers compare only the VA number. That can be misleading. The APC SRT1500XLI is rated at 1500VA and 1500W, giving it a 1.0 power factor. For server PSUs, firewalls, switches and storage, the watt rating is the number that decides how much equipment the UPS can actually carry.

Why double-conversion online UPS matters in Dubai

A double-conversion UPS does more than switch to battery when power fails. It continuously regenerates the output power. The connected load sees clean sine wave output from the UPS inverter, not raw building power.

That matters in UAE deployments because the problem is not always a full outage. Many server rooms sit inside commercial offices, warehouses, clinics, schools, retail branches and hotels. The electrical load in the building changes all day. Air-conditioning compressors start. Lifts run. Generator panels switch. Old distribution boards get pushed harder than they should. During summer, cooling load increases and small IT cabinets often sit in rooms that hit uncomfortable temperatures by afternoon.

A firewall or switch may survive that for months. Then one event reboots the stack during business hours. That is usually when the UPS conversation starts.

The SRT1500XLI gives sensitive equipment a cleaner electrical feed and battery backup from the same unit. For a rack serving Etisalat or du internet links, branch VPN, card payment network, CCTV recorder and business application server, that is the right grade of protection.

Online UPS vs line-interactive UPS

A line-interactive UPS is often enough for desktops, small routers and light office equipment. The SRT1500XLI is different. It is an online double-conversion UPS, designed for critical IT equipment that needs clean power, controlled shutdown and better handling of unstable input voltage.

Load sizing — the number that decides everything

Do not size this UPS by guessing. Use the watt load.

A typical small rack may have one server using 250W to 600W depending on CPU, disks and workload. A firewall may use 30W to 120W. A 24-port PoE switch can be light or heavy depending on how many access points, cameras and phones it powers. A NAS or storage box may be 60W or 300W. Put them together and the number changes fast.

The SRT1500XLI can carry up to 1500W, but that does not mean every 1500W load will get the runtime you want. Runtime is a separate calculation. A UPS loaded at 300W runs much longer than the same UPS loaded at 1200W. For a proper quote, send us the equipment list or a photo of the rack. We calculate the approximate watt load and suggest the UPS, battery pack and shutdown setup.

For server rooms in Dubai, we usually ask three questions before quoting: what equipment is connected, how many minutes of backup you need, and whether the system must shut down automatically if nobody is on site. Those three answers decide the right configuration.

Runtime is not fixed

Backup time depends on the connected watt load and battery configuration. A 1500VA UPS does not give the same runtime for a 300W network rack and a 1200W server load. Share the load details before purchase so the UPS is sized correctly.

Battery system and runtime expansion

The SRT1500XLI uses a 48V lead-acid battery system with APCRBC155 as the replacement battery cartridge. Typical recharge time is 3 hours, and expected battery life is 3 to 5 years depending on room temperature, charge cycles and maintenance. In a properly cooled IT room, batteries last longer. In a hot cabinet with poor airflow, they age faster.

That is why cooling is part of the UPS discussion. A UPS installed in a closed wall cabinet above a ceiling, with no ventilation and 45°C summer heat around it, will not behave like the same unit in a clean rack with airflow. Battery life is a physical reality, not a brochure promise.

The useful part of the SRT platform is expansion. The SRT1500XLI supports external battery packs, including up to 10 SRT48BP units where long runtime is needed. Most office racks will not need that many. But one or two external packs can make sense for branch offices, clinics, warehouses and security racks where someone may need time to reach site or where systems must stay online through generator delay.

Vector Digital Systems can supply the UPS as a simple standalone unit or as a runtime package with external batteries, network management and shutdown software planning. Same UPS. Different project outcome.

Management, monitoring and automatic shutdown

A UPS is not finished when it powers on. For a production rack, the management side matters.

The SRT1500XLI includes RJ-45 serial, USB and one SmartSlot. The SmartSlot is where the optional APC Network Management Card goes. With the right card installed, the UPS can sit on the network with its own IP address. IT can monitor input voltage, battery health, load percentage, runtime, events and alarms without standing in front of the rack.

More important: shutdown. If power fails after office hours and the UPS is running on battery, servers should not crash when the battery reaches zero. They should shut down in the right order. Virtual machines first. Applications next. Host last. For environments using Windows Server, VMware, storage appliances or small HCI setups, that ordered shutdown can protect data and reduce recovery time.

The LCD panel is useful for local status checks. The audible and visible alarms help on site. But for a rack in a branch office, warehouse, clinic or unmanned IT room, remote alerts are the real value. A battery warning should reach IT before the next outage. Not after.

We can install the UPS, fit the management card if selected, configure network access, set alert recipients, label the connected load, test battery operation and document the shutdown plan. That is the difference between a UPS placed in a rack and a UPS integrated into the infrastructure.

SmartSlot management option

The SRT1500XLI has one SmartSlot for an optional APC Network Management Card. Add it when the UPS must send alerts, support remote monitoring, integrate with shutdown software, or sit inside a rack where nobody checks the front LCD every day.

Where this UPS fits in a UAE rack

The SRT1500XLI is usually selected for smaller critical racks rather than whole-floor backup. Think one rack. Not the entire office.

Good fits include a Dell PowerEdge entry server with firewall and switch, a NAS with accounting server, a CCTV NVR and PoE switch, a PBX cabinet, a clinic application server, or a branch office router stack. It also works well for network rooms where Etisalat or du connectivity must stay online long enough for a controlled failover or shutdown.

It is not the right answer for a full rack of blade equipment, multiple high-load servers, large storage shelves, or a room that needs one-hour runtime at kilowatt load. That needs a larger APC SRT model or a site-level UPS design. We will say that clearly when the load list comes in.

Power, cooling and rack placement

The SRT1500XLI is a 230V UPS with IEC 60320 C14 input and 6 IEC C13 output outlets. That makes it a practical match for UAE server cabinets where the connected equipment already uses IEC power cords — servers, switches, firewalls, NVRs, storage and rack PDUs.

Do not hide it in a closed cabinet with no airflow. UPS batteries hate heat. In Dubai, that matters more than people expect. A server room can look fine in January and become a battery killer in July if the AC is weak, the rack is pushed against a wall, or the UPS sits below hot exhaust from a switch stack. Battery life is normally 3 to 5 years, but poor cooling shortens that.

The unit weighs 20.5kg. Plan the rack position properly. Low in the cabinet is better. It keeps weight stable, reduces cable strain and leaves higher rack units for switches and patching. If the UPS is used in rack mode, use the correct APC rail kit. Don’t balance it on a shelf made for lightweight network gear.

For Etisalat and du racks, we normally check the full power path: wall socket, input plug, UPS output, PDU, equipment load and earthing. The UPS is only one part of the chain. Bad power cabling can waste a good UPS.

Grey market warning — check the source before buying

UPS systems are easy to list online and easy to mishandle in the supply chain. That is where buyers get caught.

A cheap APC UPS may be old stock. It may have been stored in heat. The battery may already be aged before the box is opened. The unit may be missing accessories. The rail kit may not be included. The warranty may not be valid for UAE support. On paper, the model number looks right. In the rack, the buyer gets the problem.

For batteries, age matters. Lead-acid UPS batteries are not like network cables sitting on a shelf. Storage time and temperature affect them. That’s why the price difference between clean channel stock and unknown stock is not just margin. It can be the difference between three years of battery service and a low-battery alarm six months later.

Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS units through proper UAE procurement channels. We check the model, accessories, battery condition and installation requirement before delivery. If the site needs a rail kit, network card, external battery pack or replacement battery plan, we quote it clearly instead of letting it become a surprise during installation.

Rail kit and management card may be separate

The SRT1500XLI is a tower UPS by default and supports rack/tower use with the correct APC rail kit. The SmartSlot is built in, but the Network Management Card is an option. Confirm these items in the quote before approval.

What Vector Digital Systems provides

Vector Digital Systems supplies, installs and supports APC UPS systems across all 7 UAE emirates — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. We’ve been operating from Dubai since 2009, and our UPS work usually sits beside server, firewall, switching, CCTV, PBX and rack deployment projects.

For the SRT1500XLI, we can provide load assessment before quote. Send the equipment list, rack photo or expected watt load. We check whether 1500W is enough, whether runtime expansion is needed, and whether the UPS should have network shutdown.

Installation includes physical placement, input and output cabling check, rack mounting where the correct rail kit is included, battery connection, startup test, alarm check and connected-load review. For IT racks, we can label the output connections so the next support call doesn’t start with guesswork.

For managed sites, we configure the optional Network Management Card, assign the UPS IP address, set email alerts, confirm access, and plan controlled shutdown for Windows Server, VMware, NAS appliances or HCI where supported. A UPS that can’t alert anyone is half used.

Annual support is also available. Battery health checks, load checks, replacement battery planning, runtime testing, firmware and management review, and onsite replacement support. Useful for clinics, warehouses, schools, hotels, retail branches and offices where the UPS is important but nobody checks it weekly.

Installation is part of the job

For UAE sites, Vector Digital Systems can deliver, rack-mount, cable, test and hand over the SRT1500XLI. We also support battery replacement, load testing and UPS AMC for multi-site businesses.

APC Smart-UPS SRT1500XLI price in Dubai

We do not show a fixed AED price for the SRT1500XLI because the final quote depends on stock, battery condition, warranty, rail kit, management card, external battery packs and installation requirement.

A bare UPS is one price. A rack-mounted UPS with rail kit, Network Management Card, setup and shutdown planning is a different project. A runtime package with SRT48BP external battery packs is different again.

Send the connected equipment list and required backup time on WhatsApp. We’ll quote the right package, not just the lowest line item.
