Does Neat produce the AI meeting notes and transcription itself?
The Neat device's job is clean capture — clear, well-separated audio and accurate speaker framing. The AI notes and transcript themselves are produced by the meeting platform you license, whether Microsoft, Google or Zoom, with one exception: in BYOD or local sessions, Neat Open can capture AI notes on the device independent of any platform licence. We map which applies to you so there is no confusion about what actually generates the notes.
Who provides the AI notes — Microsoft, Google, Zoom or Neat?
It depends on the room's platform. A Teams Room uses Microsoft's AI through your Teams Premium or Copilot licensing; a Zoom Room uses Zoom AI Companion on paid Zoom plans; a Google Meet room uses Google's Gemini and Workspace features; and for BYOD or local sessions, Neat Open provides native AI notes. The device is the same — who owns the AI changes with the scenario, which is exactly what our licence map clarifies before you buy.
Can I capture AI notes without a Teams, Zoom or Google AI licence?
Yes, in BYOD or local sessions. Neat Open can automatically capture AI notes from the Neat device, transcribing both room and far-end audio, independent of any platform licence. It is opt-in, needs a paid Neat Pulse plan, and is rolling out through 2026 with early field trials now, so we confirm availability for your specific devices. For native platform meetings, the platform's own AI still applies.
Why are transcripts more accurate on a Neat device?
Transcription quality is decided before any AI runs, by the audio going in. Neat captures with a large microphone array and beamforming — the Bar Pro uses a 16-mic pyramid — and Multiple Mic Mixing blends and switches across the Bar, Pad and Center to always use the closest microphone. Cleaner, better-separated audio gives the platform's transcription far less to guess at, so the record is genuinely usable rather than a rough approximation.
Can transcription help accessibility and non-native English speakers?
Yes. Live captions and transcription, combined with clear individual speaker framing, help colleagues and students who are hard of hearing or who work in a second language follow the conversation in real time. In education and the public sector this is increasingly an inclusion requirement rather than a nicety, and clean capture is what makes those captions accurate enough to be useful.
Where are the recordings and transcripts stored, and who controls them?
Recordings and transcripts generated by your meeting platform live in that platform's environment under your organisation's controls — your Microsoft, Google or Zoom tenant. Neat Open's native AI capture is opt-in and managed through Neat Pulse.
