Description

APC SRV3KI 3kVA 2400W online tower UPS Dubai

The server is fine. The power is the weak point.

A firewall rebooting during a du link failover. A Dell PowerEdge shutting down hard because the office DB board tripped. A CCTV NVR losing footage during a short power dip. A warehouse in JAFZA where the network rack is small, but the downtime cost is not small at all.

That is where a 3kVA online UPS makes sense.

The APC Easy UPS On-Line SRV3KI is a 3000VA / 2400W tower UPS built for server rooms, network racks, storage appliances, firewalls, IP PBX systems, CCTV racks and small business IT loads that need clean 230V power. Not just battery backup. Online double-conversion protection, which means the connected equipment is fed through the UPS inverter instead of depending directly on incoming utility power.

In Dubai, that matters. Power quality issues are not always long outages. Many problems are short drops, transfer spikes, generator changeovers, loose DB connections, overloaded office circuits, or weekend maintenance in a building where nobody warned IT. Those small events are enough to crash a server, corrupt a file system, or leave a firewall stuck until someone drives to site.

Vector Digital Systems supplies and installs APC UPS systems across all 7 UAE emirates. We size the UPS against the real load, check plug type and input circuit, arrange delivery, and support the setup after installation. Same approach we use for Dell PowerEdge, FortiGate, CCTV, IP PBX and server room work. The UPS is not an accessory. It is part of the infrastructure.

What the SRV3KI is built for

The APC SRV3KI is a tower UPS for small and mid-size IT loads. A single rack. A server plus storage. A firewall stack. A CCTV recorder and PoE switch group. A branch office network cabinet. A clinic server room. A hotel back-office rack. A DMCC trading office where the internet, ERP and file server cannot drop every time the building has a power event.

It is not a large data centre UPS. It is not a three-phase system. It is not made for a full rack of blade servers or a high-density GPU cluster. It is the right size when the protected load is normally below 2400W and you need online UPS protection in a tower form factor.

For many UAE offices, that covers the real requirement. One Dell PowerEdge tower or rack server. One NAS. One FortiGate firewall. One core switch. One internet router. Maybe an NVR for cameras. The SRV3KI can protect that type of equipment if the total wattage and plug layout are checked properly before purchase.

That last part matters. 3000VA does not mean unlimited backup. Runtime depends on load. A 400W network rack runs longer than a 1600W server and storage stack. We always ask for the connected devices before quoting because a UPS bought only by VA rating can still be the wrong UPS.

Sizing note — 3000VA / 2400W

Size the APC SRV3KI by watts, not only VA. Keep headroom for startup load, battery ageing, and future equipment. For production server rooms, we normally avoid running a UPS at the edge of its 2400W output rating.

Why online double-conversion matters

A basic line-interactive UPS waits for an input problem, then transfers to battery. That transfer is fast, but it is still a transfer. For many PCs and light loads, that is fine. For servers, storage controllers, PBX systems, firewall appliances and network switches, online UPS protection is cleaner.

The SRV3KI uses online double-conversion topology. Incoming AC is converted to DC, then back to AC for the connected equipment. The load sees a controlled sine wave output from the inverter. That helps when input power is unstable, when generator power is used, or when the building circuit has voltage variation.

This is why the SRV3KI is a common fit for small server rooms in Dubai and Sharjah. The issue is not always a blackout. It can be a voltage sag during AC compressor startup. It can be a maintenance switch-over in a tower. It can be a momentary interruption in an industrial unit in Al Quoz or DIP. The UPS keeps the IT load isolated from that mess.

For a Dell PowerEdge server, the benefit is simple: fewer dirty shutdowns. For storage, fewer controller surprises. For firewall and internet routers, fewer site-down calls. For CCTV, fewer gaps in recording when the power drops for a few seconds.

Online UPS vs backup UPS

The SRV3KI is an online double-conversion UPS. It is a better fit for servers, firewalls, storage and network racks than a basic backup UPS because the protected equipment receives conditioned inverter output during normal operation.

Input planning: do not ignore the C20 connector

The APC SRV3KI uses an IEC 60320 C20 input. That detail is important during installation. Many buyers look only at 3kVA and assume the UPS can plug into any nearby wall socket. It cannot always be treated that casually.

A 3kVA UPS should be connected to a suitable circuit with the correct cable, socket and breaker planning. In a proper server room, this is checked before delivery. In an office, it is often discovered after the UPS arrives. Wrong cable. Wrong socket. No spare circuit. Shared power strip. Then the installation gets delayed.

Vector Digital Systems checks this before dispatch when installation is part of the order. We ask where the UPS will sit, what it will feed, and whether the site has a suitable input. For Dubai office towers, Business Bay fit-outs, DAFZA units, clinics and warehouse offices, this avoids the usual last-minute problem: the UPS is correct, but the room is not ready for it.

Installation warning

Do not size a 3kVA UPS from the product title only. Check wattage, plug type, input circuit, output sockets and expected runtime. The SRV3KI uses C13 and C19 outputs, so connected equipment may need the right IEC power leads.

Outlet layout: 6 x C13 and 1 x C19

The SRV3KI gives you 6 IEC C13 outlets and 1 IEC C19 outlet. That layout suits mixed IT loads. C13 outlets are common for servers, switches, firewalls, routers, NAS units and small rack devices. The C19 outlet is useful for a higher-draw device or a PDU connection, depending on the installation.

This does not mean every socket should be filled. Load comes first. A UPS with seven outlets can still be overloaded if the connected equipment exceeds 2400W. It can also run for a very short time if the load is high. We plan by equipment nameplate rating, measured draw where available, and the minimum runtime the site needs.

For a small server room, a clean SRV3KI load plan may look like this: one Dell PowerEdge server, one firewall, one core switch, one internet router, one NAS or backup appliance. For CCTV, it may be an NVR, PoE switch and network router. For IP telephony, it may be the PBX appliance, voice gateway, PoE switch and router.

The right answer depends on what has to stay alive. Not every device in the room needs UPS power. Monitors, printers, spare chargers and non-critical accessories should stay off the protected side. Keep the UPS for the load that keeps the site working.

Management and monitoring

The APC SRV3KI includes USB and serial communication options, plus an intelligent card slot for optional network monitoring. For a single local setup, USB or serial may be enough. For a server room, branch office, unmanned rack or client site managed by an IT provider, network monitoring is usually worth adding.

The reason is simple. A UPS battery can fail quietly. Input voltage problems can repeat for months. A load can creep up after someone adds a new switch or storage unit. Without monitoring, nobody knows until the UPS beeps during an outage and runtime is almost gone.

With network monitoring, the IT team can see UPS status remotely, receive alerts, and plan battery replacement before the first real outage exposes the problem. For managed sites across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah, that saves site visits and avoids blind spots.

Vector Digital Systems can supply the UPS alone or as part of a full rack setup with server, firewall, switch, cabling, PDU and UPS monitoring. For Dell PowerEdge deployments, we normally check both sides together: iDRAC for the server and UPS monitoring for power. One tells you server health. The other tells you whether the power under it is safe.

Battery runtime and replacement planning

The APC SRV3KI uses sealed lead-acid VRLA batteries. That is the normal battery type for this UPS class. It is proven, serviceable, and easy to plan around when the UPS is maintained properly.

Runtime depends on connected load. A network rack drawing 300W will run longer than a server and storage stack drawing 1500W. A lightly loaded firewall, switch and router may only need enough time to ride through short drops. A Dell PowerEdge server with SQL or file services may need enough runtime for clean shutdown if building power does not return.

This is why we ask for equipment details before quoting. Model numbers. Power supply ratings. Quantity of switches. PoE load, if any. Server count. Storage count. CCTV recorder count. Once we know the load, we can tell whether the SRV3KI is the right 3kVA UPS or whether the site needs a larger UPS, rackmount UPS, or separate UPS groups for server and network loads.

Battery replacement should not be treated as a surprise purchase. In Dubai server rooms and office IT closets, heat shortens battery life. A UPS installed next to a window, above a hot rack, or inside a poorly ventilated cabinet will age faster. Keep the UPS in a clean, cooled space. Check it during AMC visits. Replace batteries before runtime becomes a guess.

Dubai heat note

UPS batteries do not like heat. If the SRV3KI is installed in a small IT room, keep air conditioning stable and avoid placing it behind the rack where hot exhaust collects. Battery health is part of power design, not an afterthought.

Power, cooling and room placement

The SRV3KI is a tower UPS, so placement is different from a rackmount model. It normally sits on the floor near the rack, server cabinet, CCTV cabinet or IT bench. That sounds simple until the site has no floor space, no spare socket, and no airflow around the UPS.

A 3kVA online UPS produces heat. Not the same heat as a server, but enough that the room should be ventilated and cooled. In a small Dubai office, the IT closet is often shared with cleaning items, paper boxes, router boxes and spare cables. Bad place for a UPS. Keep the area clear. Leave space around the vents. Do not bury the UPS under the desk where nobody can see the alarm panel.

Input planning also matters. The SRV3KI has a C20 input, and the site must have the correct cable and electrical provision. For a new server room build, we coordinate with the electrician before delivery. For an existing office, we check what is already available. That avoids the common issue where a good UPS is delivered but cannot be connected safely the same day.

For Etisalat Business or du Enterprise internet racks, we normally recommend protecting the firewall, ONT/router, core switch and voice gateway. For a server rack, we protect server, storage, firewall and the minimum network path needed for remote access. For CCTV, the NVR and PoE switches take priority. The UPS should support the equipment that keeps the business reachable.

What should go on UPS?

Servers, storage, firewall, internet router, core switch, NVR, PBX and key PoE switches. Keep printers, monitors, chargers and non-critical office equipment off the UPS output. Every extra load reduces runtime.

Grey market warning — APC UPS warranty and battery age

APC UPS pricing in the UAE can vary a lot online. That does not always mean you are comparing the same thing. Some listings are old stock. Some are parallel imports. Some units have batteries that have been sitting in storage for too long. With a UPS, this matters because the battery is not a minor part of the product. It is the product’s job.

A UPS can look new outside and still have weak batteries inside. If it spent months in a hot warehouse, runtime may already be reduced before the first installation. If the serial and warranty route are unclear, support becomes harder when the unit faults. If the model is close to transition, the quote should state whether the unit is SRV3KI stock or the newer equivalent available at the time of order.

Vector Digital Systems quotes APC UPS units through proper UAE supply channels wherever available. We check model availability, warranty route, input and output requirements, and battery replacement planning before confirming. If the exact SRV3KI is not the right option at the time of purchase, we will say so and quote the correct APC Easy UPS model instead.

This is not about selling the most expensive UPS. It is about not installing weak power protection under expensive IT equipment. A Dell server, firewall and storage stack can cost many times more than the UPS protecting it. The UPS should not be the risky part.

Check before buying

Confirm the exact APC model, warranty route, battery condition, input connector, output socket layout and installation requirement before purchase. Low UPS pricing is not useful if batteries are aged or the unit cannot be connected at site.

What Vector Digital Systems provides with the APC SRV3KI

UPS sizing before quote. We check the actual load before recommending the SRV3KI. Server count, network gear, CCTV, firewall, storage and required runtime. A 3kVA UPS is right only when the load fits.

Supply across all 7 UAE emirates. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. We supply APC UPS systems for offices, warehouses, clinics, schools, retail branches, data rooms and small server rooms.

Installation support. We place the UPS, check power leads, connect protected loads, separate non-critical loads, and confirm basic UPS operation. Where electrical work is needed, we coordinate with site electricians instead of forcing a poor workaround.

Rack and server room deployment. Vector Digital Systems handles Dell PowerEdge servers, network racks, FortiGate firewalls, switches, CCTV racks and IP PBX systems. The UPS can be supplied as part of that full setup, not as a loose box delivered without context.

Monitoring option. If your site needs remote UPS status, we can quote the supported network management card and configure alerts. This is useful for branches, client sites, IT closets and unmanned network rooms.

AMC and battery replacement. UPS health checks, battery replacement planning, load checks and power incident review can be included in support contracts. Many outages are power problems first and IT problems second. We check both.
