Description
APC SRV2KIL 2kVA Online UPS Dubai
When the server is fine, but the power is not
The firewall reboots. The switch drops. The server comes back, but the ERP database complains. The CCTV recorder loses footage during a short power dip. Nobody calls it a UPS problem at first. They call it “network issue”, “server hanging”, or “Etisalat line down”.
Then it happens again.
That is usually when a Dubai office starts looking beyond a basic backup UPS. A normal line-interactive unit may keep a PC alive for a few minutes, but server rooms, network racks, PBX systems, CCTV NVRs, NAS storage and Dell PowerEdge deployments need cleaner protection. Not just battery backup. Stable output. Proper voltage control. Enough runtime to shut down safely or ride through short power events.
The APC Easy UPS SRV2KIL is built for that job. It is a 2000VA / 1600W online double-conversion UPS with pure sine wave output, 230V operation, LCD display, 4 IEC C13 outlets, intelligent card slot and extended runtime battery support. Not oversized data centre gear. Not a small desktop UPS. A practical 2kVA online UPS for real IT loads in UAE offices, clinics, warehouses, retail back offices and small server rooms.
SRV2KIL means extended runtime
The “L” version is important. SRV2KIL supports external battery packs for longer backup time. That makes it a better fit for server and network loads where five minutes is not enough and controlled shutdown is required.
What the APC SRV2KIL is built for
The SRV2KIL sits in the APC Easy UPS On-Line range. It is designed for IT loads that should not see raw utility power directly. In Dubai offices, that usually means one or more of these: a Dell PowerEdge server, firewall, core switch, access switch, NAS, CCTV NVR, IP PBX, biometric attendance controller, storage box, or a small rack with mixed network equipment.
The buyer is usually not asking for a UPS by topology. They are asking for uptime. They want the server to stay up during short power events. They want the firewall to stop rebooting. They want du or Etisalat internet failover equipment to stay powered long enough for the business to keep working. They want their CCTV recorder running when the building power flickers. They want the hotel front desk system, clinic application server, warehouse dispatch machine or trading office file server to avoid dirty shutdowns.
That is where online double-conversion matters. The SRV2KIL takes incoming AC power, converts it, and outputs clean AC power to the connected equipment. The load is protected from many input voltage problems because the UPS is continuously conditioning the output. For Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman offices with mixed building power quality, this is often the difference between “backup only” and actual power protection.
Vector Digital Systems supplies and installs APC UPS systems for server rooms, network racks and business IT loads across all 7 UAE emirates. We do not size UPS units from the VA number alone. We ask what is connected, what each device draws, how long it needs to run, whether shutdown software is required, and whether external battery packs are needed. A 2000VA label means nothing if the connected load crosses the 1600W limit.
2000VA is not 2000W
The APC SRV2KIL is rated at 2000VA / 1600W. For servers and network racks, watts are the safer number for sizing. A Dell PowerEdge server, firewall, switch and storage device can look acceptable on paper until peak draw, battery aging and startup load are included.

Why online double-conversion matters in a UAE office
A UPS is not only for complete power failure. In many UAE buildings, the bigger issue is short disturbance: voltage sag, transfer event, generator changeover, air-conditioning load spike, loose electrical distribution, or a brief power dip during building maintenance. A PC may survive that. A firewall or storage box may not. A server may stay powered but still record a dirty power event in logs.
The SRV2KIL gives the connected load a cleaner output than basic backup units. That is why it is usually selected for server-side equipment rather than deskside PCs. The UPS runs as the power buffer between the building supply and the IT load. Your equipment sees the UPS output, not every small mess coming from the wall socket.
This matters in small server rooms across Business Bay, Al Quoz, Deira, JAFZA, DAFZA and DMCC where the “server room” is often a locked cabinet, a split AC, one rack, and a mix of firewall, switches and server equipment. Good enough until the first outage. Then everyone asks why the UPS was undersized.
The 1600W rating is the planning line. We normally recommend leaving headroom. Do not load a UPS to the edge on day one. Batteries age. Equipment gets added. A second switch appears. A NAS gets installed. The CCTV vendor adds another recorder. A UPS that looked fine at 95 percent load becomes a problem six months later.
Do not size this UPS by guesswork
Send the connected equipment list before ordering: server model, firewall, switches, NAS, CCTV recorder, PBX, monitor if any, and required runtime. We size the UPS by watts, battery runtime and outlet type, not only by the 2kVA label.
Where SRV2KIL fits in a real rack
A common Dubai setup is simple: one Dell PowerEdge R360 or R260, one FortiGate firewall, one managed switch, one NAS or backup drive shelf, and one NVR. The server may be the main load, but the network gear is just as important. If the server remains on and the switch goes down, users are still offline. If the firewall drops, cloud apps, VPN and VoIP stop. If the PBX loses power, the reception desk gets the complaint first.
The SRV2KIL is a good match for these mixed loads when the total wattage is inside the safe limit and runtime is planned correctly. It can sit beside the rack or in the server room as a tower unit. Because it uses IEC C13 outlets, the cabling should be planned before delivery. Many servers and network devices already use IEC power leads. Some devices may need a PDU or the correct C13/C14 cable set.
This is one reason we prefer to install UPS and server equipment together. Power looks simple on a quote. On site, details matter: socket type, earthing, cable route, load split, rack placement, airflow, battery location and access for replacement. In a small office, the UPS often gets pushed into a hot corner. That shortens battery life. Dubai heat is not kind to UPS batteries, especially in poorly ventilated IT closets.
LCD, monitoring and shutdown planning
The front LCD gives local status: load level, input condition, battery status and UPS condition. For a single office deployment, that is useful. The office admin can look at the display and report what the UPS is showing without opening software.
For IT-managed sites, the intelligent card slot is more important. With the right network management card, the UPS can be monitored over the network. Alerts can be sent when the UPS goes on battery, when load is high, when battery condition changes, or when a shutdown event needs to be triggered. That matters for unattended server rooms in Abu Dhabi branches, Sharjah warehouses, JAFZA logistics offices and retail back offices where nobody technical is standing next to the UPS.
Shutdown planning is where many UPS projects fail. Buying the UPS is only half the job. The server still needs a graceful shutdown rule if runtime drops too low. Virtual machines need to stop in the correct order. NAS and backup appliances need enough time to park writes safely. A firewall may need to stay online longer than the server so remote access remains available during a power event.
Vector Digital Systems can supply the SRV2KIL as a standalone UPS or as part of a full small server-room setup: Dell PowerEdge server, rack, UPS, firewall, switch, OS installation, cabling, labelling and handover. For production workloads, we recommend sizing the UPS with at least 25 to 30 percent spare headroom after the first installation. Not because the UPS cannot run near full rating. Because offices grow. Racks never stay empty.
Runtime, batteries and the part most buyers miss
Runtime is not a fixed number. The SRV2KIL can support extended runtime, but the actual backup time depends on the connected load and battery pack count. A 300W network rack will run much longer than a 1200W server and storage load. Same UPS. Very different runtime.
That is why we ask for the load list before quoting. One Dell PowerEdge server, one firewall and one switch may be a clean fit. Add a NAS, CCTV recorder, PoE switch and monitor, and the sizing changes. Add a requirement for 30 to 60 minutes runtime, and external battery planning becomes part of the quote.
The SRV2KIL supports SRV72BP-9A external battery packs. Up to 4 external battery packs can be used for longer backup time. This is the reason many IT buyers choose the SRV2KIL instead of the non-extended runtime version. For a Dubai office where a generator may take time to stabilise, or where a remote branch needs time for safe shutdown, that extra battery option matters.
Runtime planning rule
Tell us the connected devices and the required backup time. We calculate the load against the 1600W rating, add headroom, then confirm whether the internal battery is enough or SRV72BP-9A external battery packs are needed.
Power, heat and battery life in Dubai server rooms
UPS batteries do not like heat. In many UAE offices, the server room is not a data centre. It is a small IT closet beside the accounts department, a cabinet in a warehouse mezzanine, or a back-room rack behind reception. The AC is switched off after hours. The door stays closed. The rack gets warmer than anyone expects.
That affects battery life. A UPS can be correctly sized on day one and still become unreliable later if it sits in poor ventilation. Battery replacement intervals shorten when room temperature stays high. Dubai summer, 45°C outside, split AC struggling inside. We see this often in Al Quoz warehouses, JAFZA logistics offices, retail branches and small clinics.
The SRV2KIL should be installed where airflow is clean, access is easy and battery replacement does not require dismantling the rack. Do not box it inside a closed wooden cabinet. Do not place it under a water dispenser, near a window, or behind stacked cartons. Simple advice. Still ignored too often.
Vector Digital Systems checks the physical site during installation where required. Socket type, earthing, load split, battery location and cable route. A UPS is power infrastructure. It should not be treated like an accessory dropped under a desk.
IEC cabling check
The SRV2KIL has 4 IEC C13 output outlets and IEC C20 input. Check connected devices before delivery. Some firewalls, switches and NVRs may need the correct IEC cable or a rack PDU to avoid last-minute site delays.
Grey market UPS stock in UAE — why it matters
UPS units look simple from the outside. Same black box. Same model sticker. Same VA rating. But authorised supply matters, especially for batteries, warranty and region-specific support.
Grey market UPS stock can arrive with old batteries, wrong regional warranty, missing accessories, damaged cartons or unclear service history. The unit may switch on during testing. That does not mean the batteries are fresh. It does not mean warranty is clean. It does not mean the UPS was stored correctly before reaching you.
This matters for Dubai businesses because the UPS usually protects equipment more expensive than itself. A Dell PowerEdge server, FortiGate firewall, managed switch, NAS or CCTV recorder depends on that battery system when power drops. Saving a small amount on unclear stock is not worth finding out later that the battery runtime is weak.
Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS units through proper UAE channels. We can quote the UPS, battery packs, installation, cabling and AMC support together. One accountable supplier. Not one party for the UPS, another for the server, another for cabling, and nobody responsible when the rack shuts down.
Battery age matters
For UPS purchases, confirm authorised supply, correct warranty and fresh battery stock. A UPS with weak batteries may pass a basic power-on test and still fail when the load transfers during a real outage.
