Synology NAS Dubai — Supplied, Installed and Configured by Engineers Who Know DSM

You've chosen Synology. Good call — DSM is the most mature NAS operating system on the market and it shows in every setup. What most buyers don't find out until after delivery is that a Synology shipped in a box and a Synology configured by an engineer are two completely different things. The file system, the RAID level, Active Backup, Snapshot Replication, user permissions, monitoring — none of that comes ready. Vector Digital Systems supplies, configures and installs Synology NAS systems across all seven UAE emirates, with the DSM setup done right the first time. Since 2009.

THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOUR OFFICE

Synology Wins on Software. The Hardware Is Solid. Let’s Be Honest About Both.

Most Synology buyers make the right call, but for the wrong reasons. They’ve heard it’s reliable. That it’s popular. That IT people trust it. All of that is true — but the real reason Synology earns the loyalty of IT managers across the UAE is the DSM operating system. It has been developed and refined for over fifteen years. Every backup tool, every replication feature, every monitoring alert inside DSM has been stress-tested by hundreds of thousands of businesses. The software is not going anywhere, it is not going to change ownership, and it is not going to drop a feature you’ve built your backup strategy around.

The hardware is a different conversation. The current flagship 4-bay model — the DS925+ — runs an AMD Ryzen V1500B processor and dual 2.5GbE networking. It is not the fastest NAS hardware on the market at its price point. UGREEN’s hardware is faster. QNAP’s hardware gives more expansion options. But for a Dubai office that wants a NAS that just works, managed by people who can open a browser and not a command line, that will be running reliably in five years with no surprises — Synology is the answer. When you’re choosing between the best software on mid-range hardware versus best hardware on good software, the software wins. Every time. Because software is what you interact with every single day.

WHO SHOULD CHOOSE SYNOLOGY
No dedicated IT person in the office
DSM is the most intuitive NAS interface available. An office manager can handle day-to-day file access. IT decisions are made once at installation, then the system runs itself.
Your office runs Microsoft 365
Active Backup for Microsoft 365 is free on Synology and backs up Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams to your NAS locally. No per-user fees. No third-party backup service required.
You need NAS-to-NAS replication between two offices
Snapshot Replication is Synology’s most powerful business continuity feature. It runs between two Synology NAS units at different locations with five-minute RPO and near-instant failover.
You want the lowest-risk NAS decision
Synology has the longest track record, the most comprehensive documentation, and the most consistent update history of any NAS platform. For a business that cannot afford NAS surprises — this is the choice.
SYNOLOGY MODELS — DUBAI 2025

Which Synology NAS Is Right for Your Office?

The current Synology DiskStation lineup for business offices runs from 2-bay units for small teams to 8-bay and rackmount systems for larger operations. Here is the honest picture on each model VDS supplies and installs in Dubai.

ENTRY PROFESSIONAL · 2-BAY
Synology DS723+

Two to eight users. The professional starting point — not consumer, not home office.

The DS723+ is the entry point for professional NAS use with full DSM support and Btrfs file system. Two drive bays give you between 4TB and 32TB of usable RAID 1 storage. Two built-in M.2 NVMe slots for SSD caching noticeably speed up file access on spinning drives without replacing them.

Who it suits
A team of two to eight people working primarily with documents and spreadsheets. A branch office that needs local storage without justifying a 4-bay. A first NAS for a business that expects to grow into a larger unit in two to three years.

Note: Intel J4125 processor is not fast enough for running surveillance cameras alongside file sharing at scale. For camera workloads, DS925+ is the minimum.

Quote DS723+
4-BAY FLAGSHIP · MOST INSTALLED IN DUBAI
Synology DS925+

Five to thirty users. The model VDS installs most often in Dubai offices.

The DS925+ is Synology’s 2025 flagship 4-bay — the model that replaced the DS923+ and addressed performance complaints about the previous Intel J4125 processor. The AMD Ryzen V1500B is meaningfully faster for multi-task workloads — running Active Backup, file sharing, and Surveillance Station simultaneously without the system slowing down.

Four drive bays, dual 2.5GbE networking, two M.2 NVMe slots for SSD caching, expandable to nine bays via the DX525 unit. This is the NAS for the Dubai office that has outgrown a shared drive and needs a professionally managed system with proper backup and optional second-site replication.

Who it suits
Five to thirty users in daily file access and Microsoft 365 backup. Optionally up to 16 IP cameras alongside file serving. The sweet spot for Dubai SMEs between a starter unit and a large-office 8-bay.

No PCIe slot. 10GbE cannot be added — the DS925+ is limited to 2.5GbE maximum. If 10GbE is a hard requirement, mention it when requesting a quote — we’ll specify the right unit.

8-BAY · LARGE TEAMS & SURVEILLANCE
Synology DS1825+

Thirty users or more. Or any office combining CCTV footage with file sharing at scale.

Eight bays give you between 16TB and 192TB of usable RAID 5 storage without an expansion unit — enough for several years of data growth. The DS1825+ has a PCIe expansion slot, unlike the DS925+, meaning a 10GbE network card can be installed for offices with 10GbE switch infrastructure.

Who it suits
Thirty to one hundred users, or any office running sixteen or more IP cameras alongside active file sharing. Offices with existing 10GbE switch infrastructure who want full 10GbE NAS connectivity.

RS-SERIES · RACKMOUNT

Synology RS-series rackmounts — RS1225+ (12-bay) and RS2425+ (24-bay) — go into server rooms, not under desks. VDS supplies and installs RS-series units. If your requirement is rackmount, WhatsApp us with the spec and we’ll build the quote.

DX525 · EXPANSION

The DX525 is Synology’s 5-bay expansion unit connecting to the DS925+ via USB-C, extending from 4 to 9 bays and capacity up to 216TB raw. It adds bays only — the DS925+ handles all processing. VDS supplies and installs the DX525 as part of a complete storage quote when the office has clear capacity growth plans.

DSM 7.3 — What Every Feature Actually Does for Your Office

Most NAS suppliers list Synology features as bullet points and stop there. Here is what each one means for a Dubai business in practice — from someone who configures these systems, not someone who copy-pasted the spec sheet.

ACTIVE BACKUP FOR BUSINESS · FREE

Your Entire Office Backed Up. No Per-Device Fees.

Every computer in your office generates data. Sales records, project files, client emails, CAD drawings, accounting databases. If a laptop dies, an employee accidentally deletes a folder, or a server corrupts — the question is how quickly you can get back to the moment before it happened.

Active Backup for Business is a free Synology package that backs up every Windows PC, Mac, file server and virtual machine on your office network to the NAS. Free means no per-device licensing, no per-seat subscription, no annual renewal. One NAS. The entire office covered.

Changed Block Tracking means after the first full backup, only what has changed is transferred. A laptop that changed 200MB of files since yesterday sends 200MB — not the entire 500GB drive. Backups run in the background, scheduled outside business hours, without affecting the user’s working speed.

The Cost Reality
Third-party business backup services in the UAE charge between AED 15 and AED 30 per device per month. A 20-device office pays AED 3,600 to AED 7,200 per year just for device backup. Active Backup for Business eliminates this cost entirely — permanently.
WHAT IT BACKS UP
  • Physical Windows machines — full system backup, not just files. The entire OS state is recoverable.
  • Physical Mac machines — file-level backup with version history.
  • VMware vSphere and ESXi — virtual machine snapshots to the NAS on schedule.
  • Microsoft Hyper-V — application-consistent VM backup with Synology Storage Console integration.
  • Synology applications — internal DSM packages included in system backup.
RECOVERY OPTIONS
  • Single file or folder — recovered in minutes from any backup point.
  • Full system restore — bare-metal recovery to new hardware if the original device is gone.
  • VM instant restore — run a VM directly from backup storage while the original is rebuilt.
ACTIVE BACKUP FOR MICROSOFT 365 · FREE

Your Mailboxes, OneDrive and Teams. On Your Hardware.

Microsoft’s own service-level agreement states they are not responsible for user data loss. If an employee deletes their inbox, if ransomware wipes your SharePoint libraries, if an account is accidentally removed — recovery depends on Microsoft’s retention windows, which are limited and not guaranteed. Your data is stored on Microsoft’s infrastructure under their terms. It is not backed up by anyone else unless you arrange it.

Active Backup for Microsoft 365 is a free Synology package that pulls a local copy of your entire Microsoft 365 environment to your NAS every time a backup runs. The copy sits on hardware in your office. It is yours. It does not expire. It is not metered.

WHAT IT BACKS UP
  • Exchange Online — every email, attachment, contact, calendar and folder per user, going back to the start of your subscription.
  • OneDrive for Business — all files, metadata and sharing permissions including version history.
  • SharePoint Online — document libraries, lists and site collections.
  • Microsoft Teams — channel posts, team settings, and files shared within channels via SharePoint.
KEY CAPABILITIES
  • Unlimited accounts — the only limit is the storage capacity of your NAS.
  • Unlimited retention — no 90-day window, no rolling deletion.
  • Self-service recovery portal — individual users restore their own emails and files without IT assistance.
  • Auto-discovery — new Microsoft 365 accounts, SharePoint sites and Teams are automatically added to backup tasks.
  • Block-level deduplication — identical content across users stored once, significantly reducing storage requirements.

VDS authenticates against your Azure AD tenant, configures the backup task for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, and confirms the first backup has completed — all as part of the standard installation.

SNAPSHOT REPLICATION · BTRFS REQUIRED

The Feature That Requires Btrfs — and Why That Matters More Than You Think

Snapshot Replication creates point-in-time copies of your shared folders at intervals as short as five minutes. Every snapshot is a frozen record of your data at that exact moment. If a user accidentally overwrites a critical file, or ransomware encrypts your shared folders, an administrator can restore the affected files to any snapshot point. Recovery takes seconds — the snapshot is the data at that moment.

What Nobody Tells You Before Purchase
Snapshot Replication requires the Btrfs file system. Not EXT4. A NAS set up on EXT4 cannot use Snapshot Replication at all. Migrating from EXT4 to Btrfs later requires backing up all data, reformatting the entire volume, and restoring — a process that can take hours or days. VDS configures every Synology NAS on Btrfs at installation. This is not a preference — it is part of every standard installation. The feature is available from day one.
HOW TWO-LOCATION REPLICATION WORKS
  • Primary NAS in your Dubai office holds live working data. Snapshot Replication sends encrypted copies of changed data to a second Synology at another location over your internet connection.
  • Only changed data blocks are transferred after initial setup — bandwidth-efficient over a standard business connection.
  • If the Dubai NAS fails, your team switches to the replica. Data loss is limited to the interval since the last replication — as low as five minutes.
  • VDS installs and configures both units — the Dubai primary and the remote replica — as a working two-site system from one engagement.
SNAPSHOT VS HYPER BACKUP
  • Snapshot Replication — five-minute RPO, second-level restoration, fast local and near-site recovery. When speed matters.
  • Hyper Backup — compressed, encrypted archives to cloud (C2, S3, Azure), external drives or FTP. When portability and offsite archival matter.
  • The right setup uses both: Snapshot for fast recovery, Hyper Backup for the catastrophic event where getting the data back at all is the only goal.
DSM 7.3 · RELEASED OCTOBER 2025

What Changed in DSM 7.3 — and What It Means for Business Buyers

Synology Tiering — automatic storage tiering. The NAS monitors which files are accessed frequently and moves inactive files to lower-cost storage while keeping active files on faster storage. For offices with both SSD cache and HDD storage, the files your team uses every day serve from the fast tier automatically.

Synology AI Console — deployed across 430,000 Synology systems since August 2025. On-premises AI collaboration without sending your business data to a cloud provider. DSM 7.3 added data masking before any third-party AI call — sensitive fields are filtered locally before leaving the NAS. For Dubai businesses in finance, legal, or any sector where data residency matters, on-premises AI is significant.

  • Security — 50+ patches in 12 months. DSM 7.3 adds KEV, EPSS and LEV risk indicators so patches are prioritised by actual exploitation risk, not severity alone.
  • Synology Drive now supports shared labels, file locking (prevent two users overwriting the same file), and streamlined file requests from external parties.
  • MailPlus — email moderation and domain sharing added, useful for organisations running multiple domain identities.
  • Drive compatibility reversal — 2025 model-year DiskStation Plus, Value and J Series now support third-party SATA drives for storage pool creation. M.2 still requires drives on the HCL.
DSM 8 — What It Means for Buyers Today
DSM 7.3 is the final major release in the DSM 7 platform. The DS925+ and DS1825+ are the hardware that will receive DSM 8 when it arrives. Buying now means your NAS is already on the DSM 8-ready hardware.
SYNOLOGY DRIVE POLICY · UPDATED OCTOBER 2025

Third-Party Drives, Synology’s Policy Reversal, and What VDS Installs

If you’ve researched the DS925+ online, you’ve read about Synology’s drive compatibility controversy. Here is the plain version.

In early 2025, Synology announced that new 2025-model NAS units would require certified Synology-branded drives for full feature support. Non-certified drives could still be installed but would generate warnings and lose access to IronWolf Health Management integration. This caused significant pushback from buyers who had built their NAS strategy around third-party drives.

In October 2025, with the release of DSM 7.3, Synology reversed the SATA drive restriction for 2025 model-year DiskStation Plus, Value and J Series. Third-party SATA hard drives can now be installed and used to create storage pools without feature penalties.

✓ NOW SUPPORTED — SATA DRIVES
Third-party SATA hard drives and SATA SSDs can be installed in 2025 model-year DiskStation Plus, Value and J Series running DSM 7.3. WD Red Pro, Seagate IronWolf, Toshiba N300 all work without warnings or feature restrictions.
⚠ STILL REQUIRES HCL — M.2 DRIVES
M.2 NVMe drives for SSD cache and M.2 storage pools still require drives on Synology’s hardware compatibility list. This has not changed. If using M.2 NVMe for caching on the DS925+, the NVMe drives should come from the HCL.
WHAT VDS INSTALLS
VDS uses WD Red Pro, Seagate IronWolf and Toshiba N300 for all SATA installations — all NAS-rated, 24/7-rated, and compatible with current Synology systems. We do not install desktop drives inside a NAS enclosure. We do not take shortcuts on hardware that protects your data.

What VDS Does On-Site — From Delivery to Handover

A Synology NAS out of the box is a piece of hardware. A Synology NAS after a VDS installation is a working system. The difference is not optional extras — these are the steps that determine whether Snapshot Replication works at all, whether Active Backup actually runs, whether your team can access the NAS from day one.

1
Btrfs File System Configuration
Btrfs selected for all volumes that will use Snapshot Replication. This cannot be changed later without reformatting. We make this decision correctly at installation.
2
RAID Configuration
RAID 1, 5, 6 or 10 selected based on drive count, data protection requirement and usable storage need. We explain the tradeoffs before we configure.
3
Network Integration and Shared Folders
Static IP assigned and confirmed. NAS joined to your network and visible to all devices on the LAN. If your network uses VLANs, we configure access correctly. Shared folder structure built to match how your team works.
4
Active Backup Configuration
Active Backup for Business installed and authenticated. If your office uses Microsoft 365, Active Backup for M365 authenticated against your Azure AD tenant with Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams backup tasks configured.
5
Monitoring and Handover
Drive health monitoring, storage threshold alerts and temperature warnings configured. Admin credentials and system documentation handed over. First backup verified to have run before we leave.
Two-location Snapshot Replication: VDS installs and configures both units — the Dubai primary and the remote replica. Whether that is a branch in Abu Dhabi, or a location in Saudi Arabia, Kenya, or India — we configure the replication task between the two devices, test the connection, verify sync, and hand over both systems as a working pair.
Timeline: Standard single-location installation completes in one site visit of 2–4 hours. Two-location setups require a second visit or remote session for the replica unit. Available Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Every Installation Includes
  • Btrfs file system for Snapshot Replication support
  • RAID configured to your data protection level
  • Network integration, VLANs and static IP assignment

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Synology NAS Dubai — Common Questions

Technical and practical questions Dubai buyers ask before purchasing and installing a Synology NAS.

Both are professional NAS platforms, but they make different tradeoffs. Synology's DSM operating system is more mature, more consistently updated, and easier to manage without IT expertise. The interface is cleaner, the documentation is more thorough, and the backup tools — Active Backup for Business and Active Backup for Microsoft 365 — are more complete than anything QNAP offers at the equivalent level. DSM is why people choose Synology and stay there. QNAP delivers more hardware performance and more flexibility at similar price points. The TS-464 outperforms the DS925+ on raw processing, supports more expansion options, and handles virtualisation workloads better. QNAP is the right choice for offices with IT staff who want to do more with the hardware — containerised applications, advanced storage pooling, 10GbE networking without buying a separate unit. The honest summary: if your office has no dedicated IT person and needs a system that runs reliably without constant management, choose Synology. If your office has IT resource and wants more control over hardware, QNAP is worth the conversation. UGREEN offers the best hardware value per dirham for offices where cost efficiency is the primary consideration.
No. The DS925+ has dual 2.5GbE ports but does not have a PCIe expansion slot, which means 10GbE cannot be added via a network card. Link aggregation of the two 2.5GbE ports gives up to 5Gbps aggregate bandwidth across multiple simultaneous connections, but a single stream is limited to 2.5Gbps. For the majority of Dubai offices on standard Gigabit or 2.5GbE switching infrastructure, this is not a limitation — the DS925+ transfers files at full 2.5GbE speed comfortably. If your office has a 10GbE switch and wants full 10GbE NAS connectivity, the Synology DS1825+ has a PCIe slot that accepts a 10GbE expansion card. QNAP TS-464 and UGREEN DXP4800 Plus both offer 10GbE built-in at the 4-bay tier. If 10GbE is a specific requirement, mention it when WhatsApping for a quote — we will specify the right unit.
Btrfs (B-Tree File System) is the modern file system that Synology uses as the foundation for its most important data protection features. Snapshot Replication — the technology that lets your NAS create point-in-time copies of your files and replicate them to a second NAS — only works on volumes using Btrfs. EXT4, the older file system option, does not support it. Btrfs also enables self-healing — the file system detects and corrects data corruption automatically on read, before a corrupt file reaches your team. For a business NAS that will run Snapshot Replication, Active Backup versioning, and long-term file storage, Btrfs is the correct file system. The problem is that it must be selected when the storage pool is first created. A NAS set up on EXT4 cannot be converted to Btrfs without reformatting the entire volume — which means backing up all data, rebuilding the storage pool, and restoring. VDS configures Btrfs on every Synology installation as standard.
They are different tools for different recovery scenarios. Snapshot Replication is built for speed — it creates point-in-time copies of your shared folders at intervals as short as five minutes, stores them efficiently using Btrfs Copy-on-Write, and can restore a file, folder or entire shared volume in seconds. If a user accidentally deletes the wrong folder or ransomware encrypts a share, restoration from a snapshot is near-instant. Snapshot Replication can also run between two Synology NAS devices at different locations, giving you a live replica that you can fail over to if the primary site goes down. Hyper Backup is built for portability and long-term storage. It creates compressed, encrypted backup archives that can go to Synology's C2 cloud vault, an external hard drive, an FTP server, Amazon S3, or any S3-compatible storage. Hyper Backup is the right tool for offsite cloud backup and archival — backups that need to survive a complete site loss where neither the primary nor the replica NAS is accessible. The right Synology installation uses both: Snapshot Replication for fast local and near-site recovery, Hyper Backup for the catastrophic scenario where getting the data back at all is the only goal.
Yes — for most Dubai offices it replaces a third-party Microsoft 365 backup service entirely. Active Backup for Microsoft 365 is a free Synology package that backs up Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Teams to your local NAS. There are no per-user fees, no per-account limits, and no retention windows — backup history is limited only by the storage capacity of your NAS. Individual users can restore their own emails and files through a self-service portal without IT assistance. New Microsoft 365 accounts are automatically discovered and added to backup tasks. The main consideration before replacing a paid service is ensuring your NAS has enough storage for the backup volume — typically 2 to 5GB per user per year for email and OneDrive combined, depending on usage patterns. VDS calculates this during the pre-installation consultation and factors it into the drive capacity recommendation.
It depends on how many drives you have and your priorities between storage efficiency and data protection. For a 2-drive NAS: RAID 1 mirrors both drives, giving you half the raw capacity but complete protection against one drive failure. For a 4-drive NAS: RAID 5 gives you three drives worth of usable storage with one drive of protection — survivable if one drive fails. RAID 6 gives two drives of protection and survives two simultaneous drive failures, but uses two drives worth of capacity for protection. RAID 10 mirrors pairs of drives — fastest performance, survives one drive failure per mirrored pair, but uses half the raw capacity. Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) adapts to mixed drive sizes and is convenient if you plan to add drives incrementally. VDS discusses RAID selection during every pre-installation consultation based on the number of drives, your recovery time tolerance, and your budget for replacement drives. We do not select RAID level without discussing it with the business first.
It depends on what you have configured. If you are running Snapshot Replication to a second Synology at another location, you fail over to the replica NAS. Your team accesses files at the second site. Data loss is limited to the interval since the last replication — if you replicate every four hours and the failure happens at hour three, you lose three hours of changes. The failed NAS is repaired or replaced, data is resynced from the replica, and operations return to normal. If you have no replica NAS but your RAID array is intact — a single drive failure — the NAS continues operating on the remaining drives while the failed drive is replaced. RAID keeps the system running through a single drive failure without data loss or downtime. If the NAS fails completely with no replication and no working RAID, recovery depends on what offsite backup exists — Hyper Backup to a cloud destination or an external drive rotated offsite. This is why VDS recommends configuring both Snapshot Replication for fast near-site recovery and Hyper Backup for offsite backup — they cover different failure modes.
The practical requirement is enough upload bandwidth at the primary site to transfer the daily change volume within your replication window. For most Dubai office file environments — documents, spreadsheets, PDFs — daily changes across a shared folder might be 2 to 10GB per day. On a 50Mbps upload connection, 10GB transfers in approximately 27 minutes. On a 10Mbps upload connection, the same transfer takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes. If replication is scheduled nightly, a 10Mbps upload line handles typical SME file change volumes comfortably. The initial seeding — the first full copy of all data to the remote NAS — can take significantly longer. For large datasets, Synology supports offline seeding: the initial replica is put on an external drive, shipped to the remote location, imported to the replica NAS, and then replication continues with only the changes since the seed. VDS assesses upload bandwidth at both locations as part of every two-site installation and recommends the appropriate replication schedule based on actual bandwidth available.
Yes — for SATA hard drives and SATA SSDs. With the release of DSM 7.3 in October 2025, Synology reversed its earlier policy and now allows 2025-model DiskStation Plus, Value and J Series units to use third-party SATA drives for storage pool creation. Your existing WD Red, Seagate IronWolf, Toshiba N300 or other NAS-rated SATA drives can be installed without compatibility warnings or feature restrictions. The exception: M.2 NVMe drives for SSD cache and M.2 storage pools still require drives on Synology's hardware compatibility list. If you are migrating drives from an older Synology to a new DS925+, VDS can advise on whether your existing drives are compatible with the new model's storage pool policies and assist with the migration as part of the installation.
Synology has indicated that DSM 7.3 is the final major release in the DSM 7 platform and that DSM 8 is in development. No official release date has been announced. For buyers considering a new Synology NAS in 2026, the practical advice is: do not wait. The 2025-model DS925+ and DS1825+ are the hardware generation designed to receive DSM 8 when it arrives. Buying now means your NAS is already on the DSM 8-ready hardware. Waiting means months of opportunity cost — data continues to grow unprotected, Microsoft 365 has no local backup, and the office continues to rely on whatever ad-hoc solution exists today. DSM 7.3 is current, fully supported, and receives regular security updates. It is not an ageing platform — it is the platform DSM 8 will build on.
Yes. Active Backup for Microsoft 365 backs up Microsoft Teams channel posts — including the full conversation thread, emoji and sticker formatting, and team and channel settings such as member permissions and guest access. Files shared within Teams are backed up via SharePoint Online, where Teams stores files by default. The one Teams element with a manual step: backing up Teams conversations requires access to Microsoft's Protected APIs, which must be explicitly requested from Microsoft by your Microsoft 365 administrator. Synology's documentation provides the request instructions, and VDS assists with this configuration as part of the Active Backup for Microsoft 365 setup during installation.
There is no fixed maximum on the number of snapshot versions — the limit is storage capacity. Btrfs Copy-on-Write means that unchanged data blocks are not duplicated between versions — only the changes consume additional space. For a typical office shared folder where 2 to 5 percent of data changes daily, snapshots typically consume 10 to 15 percent of total drive capacity over a 30-day retention period. VDS configures snapshot schedules and retention policies during installation based on your data change rate, total capacity, and recovery point requirement. A business that needs 30-day granular recovery of project files will have different retention settings from one that needs only 7 days of safety net against accidental deletion. We size the drives to accommodate the snapshot retention policy you need, not the other way around.
