Description
APC SMX750I Smart-UPS X 750VA 600W Dubai
Small rack. Real load. No room for a dead UPS.
The server cabinet is usually forgotten until power drops. A firewall restarts. A NAS rebuilds. The internet link comes back before the switch does. Then the accounts team calls because the ERP froze during invoice posting.
That is the moment where a small UPS either proves it was sized properly, or shows it was bought only because the VA number looked close enough.
The APC Smart-UPS X SMX750I is built for that small but important layer of infrastructure: firewall, access switch, router, NAS, NVR, tower server, compact rack server, KVM, modem, and branch-office IT loads that cannot be treated like desktop equipment. It is a 750VA / 600W line-interactive UPS in a 2U rack/tower convertible chassis, with LCD monitoring, 8 IEC C13 output sockets, USB, serial, and SmartSlot management expansion.
For Dubai offices, retail branches, clinics, warehouses, restaurants, CCTV rooms, and telecom cabinets, the SMX750I sits in the practical middle. Bigger and cleaner than a desk UPS. Smaller than a 1500VA or 3000VA rack UPS. Right for the cabinet where the actual business network lives.
For small rack loads, 600W matters more than the VA number
The SMX750I is rated at 750VA and 600W. That watt rating is the number to check against your real connected load: firewall, switch, router, NAS, mini server, CCTV recorder, and modem. Keep headroom. Don’t run a UPS at the edge of its rating in a Dubai cabinet.
What the APC SMX750I is built for
The SMX750I is not a data centre UPS for full rack loads. It is not the right unit for multiple servers, storage shelves, 10GbE switch stacks, and high draw PoE. That needs a larger Smart-UPS or an online double-conversion model.
This unit is for the smaller rack that still matters.
A branch office in Al Quoz with one firewall, one 24-port switch, one NAS, and Etisalat or du internet equipment. A clinic in Jumeirah with a cabinet holding router, switch, NVR, and patient records access. A warehouse in JAFZA where the network cabinet keeps barcode scanners, ERP terminals, and CCTV online long enough for clean shutdown. A retail back office in Dubai Mall or Mirdif where the POS network needs stable power during short dips.
Those loads are not huge. But they are annoying when they fail. Five minutes of power interruption can mean a firewall reboot, a NAS disk check, an NVR recording gap, or a switch that comes back in the wrong order. The SMX750I gives that rack a controlled power layer instead of hoping the building supply behaves.
Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS units across Dubai and all 7 UAE emirates with sizing, delivery, installation, battery replacement planning, and cabinet deployment support. We ask for the connected load before quoting because the wrong UPS rating creates support calls later.

Check the connected load before ordering
A 750VA UPS does not mean 750W usable output. The SMX750I is rated at 600W. Add up the watt draw of the firewall, switch, router, NAS, NVR, server, and any PoE load before purchase. For PoE switches, check the PoE budget separately.
Line-interactive UPS: why this model fits small IT rooms
The SMX750I is line-interactive. That means it is designed to regulate input voltage and move to battery during power interruptions. For small UAE server rooms and network cabinets, this is often the sensible design: less heat, less cost, lower complexity than an online UPS, while still giving proper battery backup and voltage regulation for IT equipment.
That matters in buildings where the IT cabinet is sharing power with office lighting, pantry circuits, warehouse equipment, or old distribution boards. Small voltage dips and short outages do not always look dramatic. They just reboot the firewall. Or they make the switch restart. Or the NAS sends a warning email at 2:17AM.
The SMX750I gives that cabinet a cleaner layer of protection. Not for running for hours. For riding through short events, giving enough battery time for shutdown, and keeping network gear alive while building power stabilises.
For longer runtime requirements, ask us before ordering. Runtime depends on real load, not only model number. A 100W firewall-and-switch load behaves very differently from a 500W rack load. Same UPS. Different result.
Rack or tower: where the SMX750I fits
The SMX750I ships as a rack/tower convertible UPS. In rack mode, it takes 2U of space in a standard 19-inch cabinet. In tower mode, it can sit upright beside a small rack, under a desk in a controlled IT area, or inside a dedicated equipment room where rack space is limited.
Depth matters. The chassis is 490mm deep and weighs 22.05kg. That is fine for proper wall-mounted or floor-standing network cabinets with the right load rating, but it should not be thrown onto a weak shelf. In Dubai office fit-outs, we often see cabinets installed for patch panels and switches, then later used for UPS units. Not every cabinet shelf is built for battery weight.
If your cabinet is a shallow wall box, measure it. Check usable depth after the rear PDU, cable bend, and door clearance. Also check airflow. A UPS stuffed into a hot closed cabinet above 40°C will shorten battery life. Dubai summer will find bad cabinet design quickly.
Vector Digital Systems can supply the SMX750I with rack installation, load check, cable routing, and battery replacement planning. For offices in Business Bay, Deira, Al Barsha, JLT, DIP, JAFZA, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and the other emirates, we can size the UPS against the actual connected load instead of guessing from the rack photo.
Cabinet fitment note
The SMX750I is 2U high and 490mm deep. Before installation, confirm rack depth, shelf rating, cable bend space, and ventilation. Battery weight is different from switch weight. A UPS should sit low in the rack, not high above network equipment.
Output sockets and cabling
The rear of the SMX750I gives 8 IEC 320 C13 output sockets. This is one of the reasons the unit works well in small server racks. Most firewalls, switches, servers, NAS units, and rack PDUs can be connected cleanly with IEC cables instead of using loose multi-plug extensions.
The input side uses IEC 320 C14. That means you need the correct input lead for the site power socket or rack PDU. In many UAE cabinets, especially older ones, the power arrangement is messy: mixed UK plugs, adapters, low-cost strips, and no clear separation between UPS-backed and non-UPS loads. This is where many battery backup projects go wrong.
A UPS is not only a box. It is a power layout. Decide which devices must stay alive and which should not be connected. The firewall, core switch, router, modem, NAS, small server, and NVR may deserve battery backup. Printer, monitor, label printer, CCTV display, and random office chargers do not.
Keep the load clean. Keep the cables labelled. Keep the UPS output for IT equipment only.
Management: LCD, USB, serial and SmartSlot
The SMX750I includes an LCD control panel on the front of the unit. For small IT teams, this is useful because the UPS can show status without needing a laptop every time: load level, battery state, input power condition, and alert information.
USB and serial ports allow direct communication with a server or supported management software. This is important when the UPS is protecting a NAS, small server, or single virtual host that needs clean shutdown during longer outages. A clean shutdown is boring. That is exactly the point. No corrupted files. No RAID warning after the power returns. No engineer spending the morning checking logs.
SmartSlot is the upgrade path. With a compatible APC network management card, the UPS can be monitored across the network, send alerts, and support remote management. For a branch office connected over Etisalat or du, or a locked cabinet in a warehouse where nobody technical is on site, network management is often worth adding.
This is especially useful for IT teams managing multiple Dubai and UAE locations. A UPS alarm at a clinic in Sharjah, a retail branch in Abu Dhabi, or a warehouse in JAFZA should not depend on someone hearing a beep in the cabinet room. Alerts need to reach the IT team before the battery is flat.
Vector Digital Systems can supply the UPS, install it, connect the protected equipment, label the outputs, and configure monitoring where required. We also handle APC battery replacement planning, including APCRBC116 for this model.

Battery runtime, recharge and lifecycle planning
UPS buying usually starts with one question: “How long will it run?” Fair question. But the answer depends on the connected load, not only the UPS model.
The APC SMX750I gives 750VA / 600W capacity. A small rack drawing 120W will get much more runtime than a rack drawing 500W. Same UPS. Different result. That is why we ask for the device list before quoting: firewall model, switch wattage, PoE load, router, NAS, NVR, server, modem, and any extra rack devices.
For a Dubai office cabinet, the target is usually not “run for hours”. The target is cleaner. Ride through short power cuts. Keep Etisalat or du internet gear alive during brief dips. Give the NAS or small server enough time to shut down properly. Avoid the ugly restart sequence where the firewall boots, then the switch, then the modem, then everything has to settle again while users are already calling.
The SMX750I uses sealed lead-acid batteries. The replacement battery cartridge is APCRBC116. Battery life is typically 3 to 5 years, but UAE heat can shorten that. A UPS installed in a closed cabinet, near a window, above warm switching equipment, or in a poorly cooled warehouse office will age faster than one installed in a proper IT room.
Typical recharge time is 3 hours. That matters if the site has repeated short outages. A UPS that has not fully recharged after the first event may not give the same runtime during the second one.
Battery planning for UAE sites
Plan APCRBC116 replacement before the battery fails. In Dubai server rooms, warehouse offices and wall cabinets, heat is the main battery killer. Check battery age, load level and self-test status during every IT maintenance visit.
Power, cooling and placement
The SMX750I runs from 230V single-phase power and supports 220V / 230V / 240V environments. That fits normal UAE office and rack power setups. The input connection is IEC 320 C14, so the correct power lead or rack PDU connection must be confirmed before delivery.
Do not place the UPS high in the rack. It weighs 22.05kg because batteries are heavy. Put it low in the cabinet to keep the rack stable and to reduce stress on shelves. If the cabinet is wall-mounted, check its weight rating before installing any rack UPS. A cabinet designed for patch panels and a switch may not be suitable for a 22kg battery unit.
The operating temperature range is 0°C to 40°C. Dubai can punish cabinets that are installed in storerooms, warehouse corners, kitchens, service corridors, and uncooled CCTV rooms. The UPS may still work. The battery may not last.
Airflow is part of the installation. Keep front and rear ventilation clear. Keep cables tidy. Do not block the UPS with cartons, patch cords, paper files, spare monitors, or the usual “temporary” items that become permanent in small IT rooms.
Installation note for Dubai racks
Use the SMX750I low in the rack, keep airflow open, and confirm cabinet depth before delivery. The chassis depth is 490mm, and cable bend space is still needed behind the unit.
Grey market APC UPS warning
APC UPS pricing in the UAE can look confusing because not every unit in the market comes through clean authorised supply. The risk is not only the label on the box. It is warranty, battery age, plug type, regional support, and whether the unit has been stored properly before sale.
A UPS can look new and still have a battery that has been sitting too long in poor storage. Lead-acid batteries do not like heat or long storage without maintenance. In Dubai, that matters. A low-price UPS that needs battery replacement soon after installation is not cheap anymore.
Also check the model suffix. SMX750I is the international 230V model. It is the correct type for normal UAE 230V single-phase IT loads. Import variations and old stock can create cabling and warranty issues, especially when the buyer only checks “750VA APC” and not the exact model.
Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS units with model verification, battery planning, installation support, and invoice documentation for UAE procurement teams. We don’t recommend buying UPS hardware only from a marketplace photo. The connected load and battery condition matter.
Do not buy only by VA rating
Match the UPS to watt load, socket type, rack depth, battery condition, management requirement, and runtime target. A wrong 750VA unit can still be the wrong purchase.
What Vector Digital Systems provides with the APC SMX750I
Load sizing before quote. We ask what the UPS will support before sending a price. Firewall, switch, router, NAS, NVR, server, modem, PoE devices. The watt load decides whether the SMX750I is right or whether you need a larger APC Smart-UPS.
Supply across all 7 UAE emirates. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. Office rack, retail branch, warehouse, clinic, hotel IT room, CCTV cabinet, and small server room deployments.
Rack deployment. We install the UPS low in the cabinet, check depth, check shelf support, route IEC cables, and separate UPS-backed equipment from non-critical loads.
Shutdown and monitoring support. USB, serial, and SmartSlot management can be used for supported shutdown and monitoring. For cabinets in remote branches, a network management card may be recommended.
Battery replacement planning. The replacement battery for the SMX750I is APCRBC116. We can supply battery cartridges and plan replacement before the UPS becomes a risk.
AMC and IT support. Vector Digital Systems has operated in Dubai since 2009. We support UPS, servers, firewalls, switches, racks, cabling, and branch-office infrastructure under AMC for UAE businesses.
