Why this product is different from a UPS
A normal UPS has inverter capacity, outlet groups, battery charging, output waveform, communication ports, and load rating. The SMX120BP does not replace that UPS. It connects to a compatible UPS as extra battery capacity.
That means two checks matter before purchase.
First, the UPS load. If the UPS is at 95% load, adding a battery pack only lets that overloaded UPS run longer. It does not make the load safe. We check the connected load in watts and VA before recommending battery expansion.
Second, the runtime target. “More backup” is not a specification. Ten minutes for shutdown is one requirement. Thirty minutes for network continuity is another.
