The Door and the Loudspeaker Become Phone Extensions

Grandstream's facility devices erase the second and third entirely. The door intercom is a SIP extension — it rings the desk phone like a colleague. The Visitor at the Door, Answered From Anywhere
It is 1:05 PM and the courier is at the door with a package. Reception is at lunch. The doorbell rings — and the GXV video phone in accounts shows the courier's face on its screen. He answers, confirms, and releases the door with one touch — on a Grandstream GXV video phone. The owner, in a meeting across town, sees the same event on his Wave app — same video, same door release, from anywhere with internet.
And the quiet part nobody else mentions: every one of those events logs itself. The RFID tap at 8:12, the PIN entry at 13:05, the door release at 13:06, the alarm at 22:40 — each one posts to your server over HTTP. Your building keeps its own diary of every door, and you never had to buy an access-control server to get it.
The Gate at 2 AM — When the Door Has No Wall Around It
A door station assumes a building around it. The truck at the warehouse gate at 2 AM, the delivery driver at the villa compound barrier, the worker at the far end of the school fence — none of them are standing in a lobby. They are standing in August heat, in dust, possibly in rain, and the intercom that serves them has to survive the same. The GSC3560 and GSC3565 are built for exactly that spot: metal casing rated IP66 against weather and IK10 against vandals, operating from -40°C to +70°C — the Gulf summer is inside its spec sheet, not at its edge.
One button, and the call lands on any desk phone or the Wave app. The guard answers, talks, and releases the gate — the built-in solid-state relay drives the lock directly and shrugs off the magnetic-tamper trick that defeats cheap relays. Power comes from the same network cable (PoE+), with a 12–48 V DC option where cable runs get creative. Wall, pole or flush mount — the gate post you already have is usually enough.

One thing stated plainly, because you may read it elsewhere: Grandstream's documentation describes distress-keyword detection — the intercom recognising a shouted "Help" — as in development. It is a roadmap item, not a shipping feature. What ships today is the rugged call point above; when the AI lands in released firmware, your units get it by upgrade, and we will tell you the day it is real.

Both run on 16 SIP accounts with call whitelist and blacklist — so a paging speaker in a public corridor rejects every call that isn't from your system. Both mount on walls or ceilings, powered by the network cable. And both carry the 2-pin sensor input that lets the building announce for itself: a door sensor triggers a call to security, a motion sensor plays a safety message, a panic button on the wall dials reception directly.
Your PA System, Without the Amplifier Room
A traditional PA system is an amplifier, a rack, a wall of knobs and a separate cabling job. Multicast paging replaces it with the phone system you already have: up to ten listening zones, each with its own priority level from 1 to 10, and Paging Barge — an urgent announcement that interrupts whatever call the speaker is carrying. A head teacher addresses every classroom at once. A clinic calls a code to the right ward, not the whole hospital. A warehouse announces shift change to the floor without touching the offices.

What is the Grandstream GDS3710?
The GDS3710 is a video door system: a weatherproof, vandal-resistant metal unit for your entrance with a 1080p camera covering a 180-degree hemispheric view, a built-in RFID card reader for keyless entry, alarm channels that drive electric locks and sirens, and full SIP support — so visitors ring the doorbell and your team answers on any desk phone, video phone or mobile app, sees who is there, speaks, and opens the door from anywhere. The newer GDS3720 series adds 4 MP imaging, AI behaviour analysis, and — on the GDS3727 — built-in WiFi 6 for cable-free installation.
Does the GDS3710 record video, or is it only an intercom?
Both. It is ONVIF Profile S compliant, which means it also works as a surveillance camera — streaming 1080p video to your existing NVR or video management system while it does its intercom job. One device on the wall does the work of two: the door intercom for your phone system and a permanent security camera for your recorder.
Can reception answer the door with video on a desk phone?
Yes — that is the standard flow we install. The visitor presses the doorbell, and the GXV video phone on the reception desk rings with live video from the entrance. Reception sees who is there, speaks, and releases the door with one touch. If reception steps out, the call follows to the owner's Wave app — same video, same door release, from anywhere with internet.
Can I answer and open the door from my phone when I'm not in the office?
Yes — the Wave app carries the door to your pocket. You see the visitor on live video, talk to them, and open the door with a tap from a meeting, the airport, or another country. The GDS unit drives the electric lock through its alarm channels, so no one has to walk to the door — and every open is logged.
Does the GDS work with non-Grandstream phone systems?
Yes — GDS door systems are standard SIP devices and register on 3CX, Yeastar, Avaya and hosted platforms, with auto-provisioning available on 3CX as well as Grandstream UCM. The video feed, RFID and alarm channels work the same regardless of which PBX you run.
How do RFID cards and PIN codes work on the door system?
Each card or fob is enrolled once, then opens the door with a tap — the GDS3710 ships with one card and one fob, and we enroll your staff's cards at installation. PIN codes work the same way on the keypad for staff without cards. Every tap and every PIN entry is an event the system can log to your server, so you always know who opened which door and when.
What is multicast paging, and what does it replace?
Multicast paging broadcasts voice announcements from any phone to groups of speakers across the building — by zone, with 10 priority levels, and Paging Barge so an urgent announcement interrupts an active call. It replaces the separate PA system entirely: bell schedules in schools, code calls in clinics, shift announcements in warehouses, closing-time messages in retail — all from the phone system you already have, with no amplifier room.
GSC3510 or GSC3505 — which speaker do I need?
The GSC3510 if you need two-way talk-back: it has an MMAD microphone array that picks up clear voice from 4.2 metres, so it works as an intercom point in classrooms, wards and service counters, not just a speaker. The GSC3505 if you need announcements and background audio in one — a one-way SIP speaker with Bluetooth and WiFi that also plays music between announcements. Many sites run both: 3505 in common areas, 3510 where conversation matters.
Can a paging speaker replace our PA system?
In most buildings, yes. A PA system is an amplifier, a rack and a wall of knobs; GSC paging speakers are SIP extensions on the phone system you already have — each powered by the network cable, each addressable by zone and priority, all managed from the same dashboard as your phones. Schools replace the bell system, clinics the code-call system, warehouses the shift horn. The separate amplifier room retires.
Can door or motion sensors trigger calls or announcements automatically?
Yes — the 2-pin multi-purpose input on GSC speakers links to any sensor. A door sensor can trigger a phone call to security when a door stays open; a motion sensor can play a recorded safety announcement when someone enters a restricted zone; a wall-mounted panic button can dial reception directly. The building starts announcing for itself, without anyone watching a screen.
Is the GDS3710 weatherproof for outdoor gates?
Yes — the GDS3710's metal housing is weatherproof and vandal-resistant, built for outdoor entrances, parking gates and exposed walls. For gates that are purely vehicle access, the GDS3705 audio-only unit is the simpler answer; for any door where seeing the visitor matters, the GDS3710's 180-degree video covers the whole approach with no blind spots.
