Description

APC SRVS1KI Dubai 1000VA Online UPS UAE

When a small server room can’t afford dirty power

The server doesn’t need a long power cut to go down. Sometimes it’s a short dip. Sometimes the generator takes a few seconds to stabilise. Sometimes the site is in an older building in Deira, Al Quoz, Sharjah Industrial Area, or a JAFZA warehouse office where the electrical panel has been extended more than once.

That’s enough to restart a firewall, drop a PBX, corrupt a running database, or freeze the NVR that records your CCTV cameras.

APC SRVS1KI is built for that kind of problem. Not for running a full office for hours. For keeping critical IT loads clean, steady, and alive long enough to ride through a short disturbance or shut down properly.

It is a 1000VA / 800W online double-conversion tower UPS with 230V input/output, 3 IEC C13 outlets, LCD display, and an intelligent card slot. A practical 1kVA UPS for small server rooms, network cabinets, CCTV racks, telecom equipment, and office IT loads across Dubai and the wider UAE.

Important lifecycle note

Schneider Electric lists SRVS1KI as “to be discontinued” with end of commercialisation on 15 August 2026. SRVS1KI remains a valid model for replacement, matching existing UPS fleets, and same-model procurement while available. For new projects, ask us to quote SRVS1KI or the current replacement family depending on availability and approval requirements.

What APC SRVS1KI is built for

The APC SRVS1KI sits in the small online UPS category. It is not a big three-phase UPS. It is not a rack UPS. It is not an extended-runtime battery system. It is a compact tower UPS for loads where clean power matters more than long battery time.

The typical Dubai buyer is protecting one or two critical devices: a firewall and switch, a small Dell PowerEdge server, a NAS, a CCTV recorder, a VoIP PBX, or a network cabinet feeding a branch office. In a clinic, it may protect the reception system and network storage. In a warehouse office near JAFZA or Dubai Investment Park, it may protect the router, switch, time-attendance device, and one small server. In a retail back office, it may protect POS support equipment and the CCTV/NVR stack.

The key point is load discipline. 800W does not mean “plug in everything near the rack.” It means calculate the actual load, leave headroom, and connect only the devices that must stay alive during a utility dip or transfer event.

Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS systems in Dubai with load checking, installation, battery replacement planning, and site support. We have been working with UAE server rooms, office IT closets, CCTV racks, and network cabinets since 2009. The UPS needs to match the load. Guessing is how batteries fail early and UPS units overload when the site needs them most.

Online UPS means zero transfer time

SRVS1KI uses double-conversion online topology. Incoming AC is converted and regulated before output reaches the connected equipment. For sensitive IT loads, this is different from a line-interactive UPS, where the unit transfers to battery after detecting an input issue. With online topology, the protected load is already running through the UPS inverter.

Why 1000VA / 800W matters

UPS sizing in UAE projects often starts with the wrong question: “How many minutes will it run?” The better first question is: “What exactly is connected?”

SRVS1KI is rated at 1000VA and 800W. The watt rating is the one that matters most when checking real equipment load. A firewall may draw 20W to 80W. A 24-port PoE switch could draw far more if PoE cameras or access points are loaded. A small tower server may draw 150W to 400W depending on CPU, drives, and workload. An NVR with multiple disks can spike during boot or recording load.

That is why we don’t recommend filling all three C13 outlets just because they exist. The right setup may be one firewall, one switch, and one small server. Or one NVR and one PoE switch. Or a NAS and router. The wrong setup is plugging in printers, monitors, desk PCs, and non-critical devices until the UPS alarm starts.

In Dubai server rooms, we usually size UPS load with at least 20% spare headroom. Heat, battery age, and future device additions all matter. A UPS that runs at 95% load on day one is already too close.

Runtime is load-dependent

SRVS1KI is a 1kVA online UPS for ride-through and controlled shutdown. It is not an extended-runtime model. If you need longer battery backup, tell us the connected load in watts and the target runtime. We will quote the correct APC model or external-battery configuration instead of overselling this unit.

Where SRVS1KI fits in a Dubai IT setup

For a small office server room, SRVS1KI is a clean fit when the protected load is controlled. A firewall, core switch, small server, and storage device. Enough to keep the network alive during short power movement and allow a proper shutdown if the outage continues.

For CCTV and security systems, the UPS is often protecting an NVR, network switch, and router. That matters in warehouses, clinics, retail outlets, and villas where recording gaps create a real problem. Dubai sites with Etisalat or du routers should also check whether the router, ONT, firewall, and switch are all on protected power. One unprotected device can break the chain.

For telecom cabinets, PBX systems, and VoIP equipment, the SRVS1KI helps avoid call drops during momentary power loss. Not a big claim. A practical one. A PBX cabinet with a small switch and router is exactly the kind of load a 1kVA online tower UPS is often asked to protect.

For branches across Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain, the same logic applies. Keep the essential IT load protected. Leave non-essential equipment off the UPS. Label the outlets. Check batteries on schedule.

Input, output, and cabling

SRVS1KI uses IEC cabling, not UAE 3-pin sockets directly on the UPS body. Input is IEC 60320 C14. Output is 3 × IEC 60320 C13. That is normal for IT equipment, but it needs to be planned before delivery.

Many servers, switches, firewalls, and storage systems already use IEC C13/C14 power cables. Some small devices use adapters or external power bricks. During installation, we check what plug types are actually used at site and avoid unsafe adapter chains inside the rack or cabinet.

The supplied cable set can include IEC-to-Schuko and IEC-to-C14 style cables depending stock package and regional bundle. For UAE offices, we confirm the actual cable requirement before installation. Small detail. Big difference when the technician reaches site and the UPS can’t be connected cleanly.

Output voltage can be configured around 220V, 230V, or 240V. Most UAE IT deployments run fine at 230V. We only change this when the protected equipment or site requirement calls for it.

LCD display and monitoring options

The front LCD gives local status information without connecting a laptop. For small server rooms, that is useful. Load level, battery condition, alarms, input and output status — the person standing in front of the cabinet can see what is happening before calling support.

SRVS1KI also includes an intelligent card slot. With the correct network management card or compatible monitoring accessory, the UPS can be monitored over the network. That matters when the UPS is installed in a branch office, clinic, warehouse, or remote cabinet where IT support is not sitting next to it.

For server workloads, monitoring is not just nice to have. A UPS should tell the server when to shut down safely. A shutdown plan protects data better than waiting until the battery is empty. For Windows Server, NAS platforms, and VMware-style small environments, we check the shutdown requirement during quoting.

This is where a cheap UPS install usually fails. The box is delivered. Equipment is plugged in. Nobody configures alerts. Nobody checks shutdown behaviour. Six months later the first real outage exposes the gap. Vector Digital Systems treats UPS installation as part of the IT system, not a carton drop.

Battery runtime, recharge, and Dubai heat

UPS batteries don’t like heat. That matters in the UAE. A UPS installed inside a cooled office IT closet will behave differently from the same UPS placed in a hot storeroom, above a false ceiling, or next to a window where afternoon sun hits the cabinet.

SRVS1KI uses a lead-acid battery system with a typical recharge time of 4 hours and expected battery life of 3 to 5 years under proper site conditions. In Dubai, battery life depends heavily on room temperature, dust, ventilation, and how often the UPS discharges.

A 45°C summer outside is not the same as a 45°C server room. The room should not be allowed to reach that point. UPS batteries sitting in high heat age faster. The UPS may still power on, the LCD may still look normal, and the problem only appears when the first outage comes. The load drops earlier than expected.

For production IT loads, we recommend battery checks as part of routine AMC. Not once after failure. Before failure. That means checking age, visual condition, self-test status, load level, alarms, and whether the connected equipment still matches the UPS capacity.

Practical battery planning

For office IT rooms, CCTV cabinets, PBX systems, and branch network racks, plan battery replacement before the UPS fails a live outage. A 3-year replacement cycle is common for warm UAE sites. Cooler, cleaner rooms may stretch longer, but the battery should still be tested.

Power quality and generator transfer

Many UAE buildings have generator backup. That does not remove the need for a UPS. It usually makes the UPS more important.

During a utility failure, the generator takes time to start, stabilise, and transfer load. During that gap, network equipment and small servers need battery support. During generator operation, voltage and frequency can fluctuate depending on load, maintenance condition, and building electrical design.

The SRVS1KI is an online UPS, so the connected IT load is protected from unstable input within the UPS design limits. This is the reason small server rooms, CCTV racks, and network cabinets often use online UPS units instead of basic backup units.

For a site with Etisalat or du fibre, firewall, PoE switch, CCTV, and one server, the UPS should protect the full path. Protecting the server but leaving the ONT or switch outside the UPS still causes downtime. We check the chain during installation.

Do not connect laser printers or heavy office equipment

Laser printers, shredders, kettles, heaters, and general office devices do not belong on the SRVS1KI. They can overload the UPS, shorten battery life, and reduce protection for the devices that actually need backup power.

SRVS1KI vs SRVS1KIL, SRV1KI, and rack UPS models

The model number matters. SRVS1KI is the standard 1000VA / 800W tower model. It is not the long-runtime version. It is not a rack model. It has 3 IEC C13 outlets and a tower body.

SRVS1KIL is a different style of requirement: extended runtime with external battery support. That makes sense when the load must stay up longer than a standard internal-battery UPS can support.

SRV1KI is the newer APC Easy UPS On-Line 1000VA / 800W tower family found in Schneider Electric’s current SRV range. Depending stock and approval, it may be the cleaner choice for a new project where exact SRVS-series matching is not required.

Rack UPS models are different again. If the UPS must sit inside a 19-inch rack, do not buy SRVS1KI and try to make it fit. Use a rack-mounted APC online UPS with rail kit. That is the correct approach for server cabinets where floor space is limited or where the UPS must be secured with the rest of the rack equipment.

Send us a photo of the rack, load list, and required backup time. We will confirm whether SRVS1KI is correct or whether the site needs SRV1KI, SRVS1KIL, a rack model, or a higher-capacity UPS.

Grey market and old-stock warning

UPS buying in Dubai has one risk that buyers often miss: old batteries inside “new” boxes.

A UPS can sit in storage for months. Sometimes longer. The carton still looks new. The model number is correct. The invoice says new. But the internal battery has already aged before the unit reaches your site.

This matters more for UPS than many other IT products because the battery is the product’s weakest time-based component. A server can sit sealed and still be fine. A UPS battery ages whether you use it or not.

Vector Digital Systems checks model, condition, channel availability, and practical replacement direction before quoting APC UPS units. For SRVS1KI specifically, we also flag the lifecycle status because Schneider Electric lists the model as moving toward end of commercialisation on 15 August 2026. That date matters for procurement teams, project approvals, matching existing fleets, and future replacement planning.

Cheap stock is not cheap if the battery fails early or the model cannot be matched later. For office IT, CCTV, and server room loads, buy the right model through a proper channel and plan battery replacement from day one.

What Vector Digital Systems provides

Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS systems for offices, server rooms, retail branches, clinics, warehouses, schools, and IT integrators across all 7 UAE emirates. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain.

We do not treat a UPS as a simple carton sale. We check the connected load, socket type, runtime expectation, installation location, rack or floor placement, battery condition, and shutdown requirement.

For small server rooms, we can install the UPS, label the connected equipment, test startup, verify load level, and explain what the LCD alarms mean. For network cabinets, we check router, firewall, switch, ONT, and any PoE load. For CCTV racks, we check the NVR, PoE switch, cameras, and storage load.

We also support battery replacement, UPS health checks, AMC visits, and upgrade planning when the site grows beyond 1kVA. If your current UPS is beeping every few hours, shutting down early, or showing battery alarms, send us the model label and a photo of the connected equipment.

Vector Digital Systems has operated from Dubai since 2009. Office IT, structured cabling, server room work, UPS replacement, firewall deployment, PBX, CCTV, and rack cleanup all connect in real sites. The UPS is one part of that system. It needs to be sized like it belongs there.

Stock and availability in Dubai

APC SRVS1KI availability depends on current Schneider Electric channel stock. Because the model is moving toward end of commercialisation, we recommend checking availability before raising purchase approval.

For same-model replacement, mention that clearly when enquiring. Procurement may need SRVS1KI specifically to match an existing site, approved BOQ, maintenance contract, or installed fleet.

For new deployments, we can quote SRVS1KI while available or recommend the current replacement direction if that is better for long-term support. We can also quote higher-capacity models if the connected load is too close to 800W.

WhatsApp the connected equipment list and site location. We will confirm model, availability, and whether installation is required.

Frequently asked questions — APC SRVS1KI Dubai

What is APC SRVS1KI?

APC SRVS1KI is a 1000VA / 800W Easy UPS On-Line tower UPS for 230V IT loads. It uses double-conversion online topology, has 3 IEC C13 outlets, an IEC C14 input, LCD display, and an intelligent card slot.

Is SRVS1KI suitable for a small server room?

Yes, if the connected load is within the 800W rating and the goal is ride-through or controlled shutdown. It is commonly used for small servers, firewalls, switches, NAS units, PBX cabinets, and CCTV/NVR loads. For longer backup time, use an extended-runtime model.

Is SRVS1KI a rack UPS?

No. SRVS1KI is a tower UPS. It is not designed as a 19-inch rack-mounted model. If your UPS must be fitted inside a server rack, ask for a rack UPS with rail kit instead.

How many devices can I connect to SRVS1KI?

It has 3 IEC C13 outlets, but the outlet count is not the sizing rule. The total connected watt load must stay below 800W with spare headroom. We recommend sharing the device list before purchase so the UPS is not overloaded.

Is APC SRVS1KI discontinued?

Schneider Electric lists SRVS1KI as “to be discontinued” with end of commercialisation on 15 August 2026. It may still be available through channel stock, but for new projects we can also quote the current replacement family if required.
