Description
APC Smart-UPS On-Line SRT1000RMXLI Dubai
When one rack loses power, the whole office feels it
The firewall stays on. The server stays on. The NAS finishes writing data instead of dropping halfway through a backup. The CCTV NVR doesn’t reboot during a voltage dip. That is the job.
In a Dubai office rack, the UPS is usually ignored until the first bad power event. A short utility failure. A generator transfer. A brownout after hours. A maintenance shutdown in a building riser. Five minutes later, the IT team is checking logs, storage consistency, firewall uptime, and whether the branch users can still connect.
The APC Smart-UPS SRT1000RMXLI is built for that rack. Not a desktop UPS pushed into server duty. Not a basic line-interactive unit under a table. A 1000VA / 1000W double-conversion online UPS in a 2U rackmount chassis, made for IT loads that need clean 230V power and controlled shutdown behaviour.
Vector Digital Systems supplies, installs and supports APC UPS systems across Dubai and all 7 UAE emirates. We size the UPS against the actual connected load, check the rack depth, confirm socket type, and plan battery replacement before the unit becomes another forgotten box in the cabinet.
What the SRT1000RMXLI is — and who it is built for
The APC Smart-UPS SRT1000RMXLI sits in the small rack UPS category, but it is not a light-duty office UPS. It is part of APC’s Smart-UPS SRT online range. That matters because online UPS design handles power differently from the cheaper UPS units most offices have seen under desks.
A line-interactive UPS usually passes utility power through and switches to battery when it detects a problem. That is fine for many PCs. The SRT1000RMXLI uses double-conversion online topology. Incoming AC power is converted, regulated, and recreated as clean AC output for the load. The connected equipment sees stable output from the UPS inverter, not raw building power.
That is why this model fits racks with firewalls, switches, small servers, NAS appliances, IP PBX systems, access control controllers and CCTV NVRs. The load may be small on paper, but the downtime pain is not small. A firewall reboot during business hours can stop payment terminals, VPN users, ERP sessions, Wi-Fi authentication, SIP trunks and remote branches at the same time.
This UPS is a good fit for a 6U, 9U, 12U or 15U rack in a Dubai office where the connected IT load is under 1000W and needs online protection. A JLT office with one firewall, two switches and a NAS. A clinic in Al Barsha with a server, NVR and access control panel. A DAFZA warehouse rack with Etisalat or du connectivity, a router, a switch and local storage. A retail back office where the POS and VPN cannot drop every time the building power flickers.
It is also useful as a dedicated UPS for one small server or storage unit where shutdown order matters. Server first? Storage first? Firewall last? That is where SmartSlot network management and shutdown software planning become important.
Sizing note — 1000VA and 1000W are not the same conversation on every UPS
This model is rated at 1000VA / 1000W, so buyers can plan against a full 1000W output rating. We still recommend leaving working headroom. A rack drawing 650W to 750W is a better match than one already sitting near 950W before future devices are added.

The first number to look at is not the VA rating. It is the watt rating. Many UPS conversations in UAE get confused because buyers see 1000VA and assume the usable watt output is the same on every model. With this unit, APC rates the output at 1000W. That makes sizing cleaner.
Still, the connected load should not be planned to sit at the edge. A firewall drawing 60W, two PoE switches drawing 250W combined, a NAS at 90W, one small server at 250W and an NVR at 70W already puts the rack around 720W before startup behaviour and future additions. That is a sensible range for this UPS. A rack already close to 1000W should move up to a larger SRT model.
The 2U rackmount format matters in real installations. A 2U UPS takes two rack units, but it keeps the load low in the cabinet. UPS weight belongs near the bottom of the rack, not above switches and patch panels. At 21 kg net weight, this unit should be mounted with the rail kit and proper rack hardware, not balanced on a shelf in a wall cabinet.
The 50.5 cm chassis depth also needs checking. Most proper server cabinets in Dubai offices can take it. Some shallow wall-mounted network racks cannot. Before quoting, we ask for rack depth or a photo of the cabinet. That avoids the common problem: the UPS arrives, the door does not close, and the cabling is crushed against the rear panel.
Output is through 6 IEC C13 outlets. That suits servers, storage, switches and many rack PDUs. Where equipment uses different plugs, we plan the PDU and cable set properly. We do not recommend loose adapters inside a production rack. Heat, movement and poor contact create avoidable faults.
Do not size this UPS from the device labels alone
A server power supply label may say 750W, but the server may draw far less in normal use. A PoE switch may draw little today and much more after cameras, access points or IP phones are added. We size from actual load, PoE budget, future ports and required backup time.
Online UPS behaviour in a Dubai server rack
Dubai power is generally stable in business areas, but office IT racks still face events that damage uptime. Building maintenance. Generator transfer delay. Circuit work. Loose neutral. Overloaded office DBs. Small voltage drops when HVAC loads start. In a normal office, people notice lights flicker. In an IT rack, storage controllers and firewalls notice it differently.
The SRT1000RMXLI protects connected equipment with online double-conversion design. The load is powered by the UPS output, while the UPS handles input variation. During a power failure, the rack does not wait for a relay changeover before battery support begins. For servers, storage and network gear, that is the reason buyers choose an online UPS instead of a lower-cost line-interactive model.
This is especially relevant for network edge racks. In many UAE offices, the rack holds the internet handoff, firewall, core switch, Wi-Fi controller, PBX gateway, CCTV recorder and sometimes a small server. If the rack goes down, the office looks bigger than it is. No internet. No VPN. No calls. No cameras. No access to hosted applications. One cabinet, many dependencies.
The SRT1000RMXLI gives that cabinet clean output, battery bridge time and the option to monitor power events properly instead of guessing what happened after the fact.
Battery, runtime and APCRBC155 replacement planning
The UPS uses lead-acid batteries, with APC replacement battery cartridge APCRBC155. APC lists typical battery life at 3 to 5 years, but Dubai heat changes the real number. A UPS sitting in a cooled rack room may run close to the expected cycle. A UPS in a poorly ventilated store room behind a warehouse office may need battery replacement sooner.
This is why installation matters. The UPS should not be trapped in a closed cabinet with no airflow. It should not sit above heat-generating switches. It should not be installed in a rack where the rear is packed with cables and no exhaust path. Battery life is not only a battery issue. It is a cooling issue.
The 3-hour recharge time is useful after a power event. It means the UPS can recover battery charge relatively quickly once mains power returns. For offices that face repeated short outages, recharge behaviour matters. A UPS that has not recovered from the first outage has less battery left for the second.
The SRT1000RMXLI also supports external runtime battery expansion with SRT48RMBP battery packs. That is useful when the requirement is not just a safe shutdown. Some buyers need the firewall and internet link to stay alive through longer utility gaps. Others need CCTV recording to continue. Some want time for the generator to stabilise before the rack load transfers fully.
We ask for two numbers before recommending battery expansion: connected load in watts and target backup time in minutes. Without both, runtime claims are just sales talk. A 300W load and an 850W load behave very differently on the same UPS.
Battery replacement is part of the ownership cost
APCRBC155 should be planned into the UPS lifecycle. For Dubai racks, we recommend checking battery health during AMC visits, especially after 24 months. Heat, frequent discharge and poor ventilation reduce battery life faster than most buyers expect.
SmartSlot, network management and shutdown control
The SRT1000RMXLI includes SmartSlot, which allows an optional APC network management card to be installed. For a rack with only switches, this may not be needed. For a rack with a server, NAS, firewall or virtual machine host, it is often the part that turns the UPS from a battery box into a managed power system.
With network management, the UPS can send alerts when input power fails, when battery charge drops, when load is too high, or when the battery needs replacement. IT teams can see power events remotely instead of waiting for a user to report that systems are down. For businesses with racks in multiple branches — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman — this saves site visits.
Shutdown planning is the other reason. A server should not run until the UPS battery is empty. Storage should not be forced off while writing data. A firewall may need to stay up longer than a file server because VPN and cloud access depend on it. The right sequence depends on the rack.
For a small rack, a common order is simple: notify IT, keep network gear alive, shut down the server or NAS before battery reaches a low threshold, then preserve firewall and internet equipment as long as practical. For a CCTV rack, the goal may be different. Keep recording. For an IP PBX rack, keep calls alive until the business decides whether to close operations or switch to mobiles.
Vector Digital Systems can supply the UPS with the network card, configure alert settings, set IP details, document login access, and hand over the shutdown plan. We also label the connected equipment so the next technician knows what is protected. Simple work. But it prevents confusion during the first real outage.
The SRT1000RMXLI is not just for keeping power on. Used correctly, it gives the IT team time, visibility and control. That is what a production rack needs.
Power, heat and where this UPS belongs in the rack
The SRT1000RMXLI is a 230V online UPS for small IT racks, not a floor UPS to hide behind a desk. It belongs inside the rack, near the bottom, with airflow around the chassis and the battery area kept away from trapped heat.
That detail matters in Dubai. A UPS installed in a cooled IT room in Business Bay will age differently from the same UPS installed in a warehouse mezzanine in JAFZA, or a closed wall cabinet near a ceiling in a retail branch. Heat shortens battery life. Poor ventilation makes it worse. The unit is rated for 0°C to 40°C operation, but battery planning should still assume UAE site conditions, not brochure conditions.
The UPS has a 2U height and 50.5 cm depth. In a 600 mm deep network cabinet, rear cable clearance can be tight. In a 800 mm or 1000 mm rack, installation is easier. Before delivery, we prefer to check cabinet depth, available rack units, rear power routing, and whether the rack already has a PDU fitted.
A UPS should not block cable access to Etisalat or du handoff equipment. It should not sit loose on top of a switch. It should not share a cheap multi-plug with production equipment. Correct rack placement, rail mounting and load connection are part of the installation, not an extra detail.

Grey market UPS stock — the battery age problem
A UPS can look new and still be a bad buy. The carton may be sealed. The front panel may be clean. The price may look attractive. But if the unit sat in hot storage for a long time, the battery may already be halfway through its useful life before it reaches your rack.
This is the common grey market problem with UPS systems in the UAE. Servers have service tags. UPS systems have serial numbers and warranty region checks. Batteries have an age reality that buyers often don’t see until the first self-test fails.
For the SRT1000RMXLI, the replacement battery is APCRBC155. That part is not just a future accessory. It is part of the buying decision. If the UPS is old stock, poorly stored, or imported through the wrong channel, the lower purchase price can disappear when battery replacement comes early.
Vector Digital Systems supplies APC UPS systems through authorised UAE channels wherever available, checks the part number, confirms the warranty path, and advises on battery condition. For project supply, we can also plan future APCRBC155 replacement cycles so the IT team does not discover a weak battery during a power cut.
Cheap UPS stock is usually cheap for a reason. With servers, the risk is warranty. With UPS systems, the risk is warranty plus battery age. Both matter.
Do not buy by price alone
Ask for model number, warranty status, battery replacement part and stock condition. A UPS with tired batteries can pass a basic power-on check and still fail when the load needs runtime.
What Vector Digital Systems provides with the SRT1000RMXLI
UPS sizing before quotation. We ask what is connected: firewall, switches, server, NAS, NVR, PBX, access control, PoE devices and future rack additions. A 1000W UPS should be sized from real load, not guessed from product labels.
Rack installation across all 7 UAE emirates. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. We rackmount the UPS, route power properly, connect the protected load and keep the UPS low in the cabinet where the weight belongs.
Battery replacement planning. APCRBC155 replacement batteries can be supplied when needed. We check battery health during support visits and advise replacement before the battery becomes a downtime risk.
SmartSlot and network card setup. If your rack needs remote monitoring, alerts or shutdown control, we can supply and configure the APC network management card, assign IP details, set alert recipients and document access.
AMC support. UPS health checks, rack load review, battery checks, shutdown testing, cable cleanup and replacement planning. Useful for offices where the UPS supports firewall, storage, CCTV or branch connectivity.
Complete rack context. We don’t look at the UPS alone. We check the load, rack depth, cooling, cable route, PDU, internet handoff and the equipment that must stay alive first. That is how UPS sizing works in a real Dubai office.
Where this UPS fits
The SRT1000RMXLI is a strong fit for a small server rack drawing around 400W to 750W where clean online power is required. That could be one entry server, one NAS, one firewall, two switches and a few management devices. Or a CCTV rack with one NVR, PoE switching and router. Or an IP PBX rack where voice service must stay up through short power events.
It is also a good choice for branch offices that depend on cloud apps but still need the local rack to stay alive. In Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi offices, the internet edge is often the business edge. When the firewall drops, everything hosted outside the office disappears from the user’s side.
It is not the right choice for a rack with multiple servers, large PoE switching, storage shelves or long runtime expectations at high load. That requirement needs a larger SRT model or external battery packs planned from day one.
Configuration tip
For firewall, switch and NAS racks, add network management if the site has no IT staff on location. Remote alerts can tell you whether the issue is utility power, overload, battery fault or a device failure.
Frequently asked questions — APC SRT1000RMXLI Dubai
Is the APC SRT1000RMXLI an online UPS or line-interactive UPS?
It is a double-conversion online UPS. The load receives regulated 230V output from the UPS inverter, which makes it a better match for servers, firewalls, NAS, PBX and CCTV rack equipment than a basic desktop UPS.
How much load can I connect to this UPS?
The SRT1000RMXLI is rated at 1000VA / 1000W. We recommend leaving working headroom instead of running close to 1000W. For many Dubai office racks, a 400W to 750W connected load is the practical range, depending on required backup time.
Does it fit in a normal network rack?
It is a 2U rackmount UPS with 50.5 cm depth and 21 kg net weight. It fits many server and network cabinets, but shallow wall racks must be checked before purchase. We confirm rack depth before delivery when installation is required.
What battery does the SRT1000RMXLI use?
The replacement battery cartridge is APCRBC155. APC lists typical battery life at 3 to 5 years, but Dubai heat and rack ventilation can shorten battery life. We can supply replacement batteries and include battery checks under AMC.
Can I add more runtime later?
Yes. The SRT1000RMXLI supports SRT48RMBP external battery packs for longer runtime. Runtime depends on the connected load in watts, so we calculate based on your actual rack load and backup-time target.
Does the UPS include network monitoring?
The UPS includes SmartSlot for an optional APC network management card. Add the card if you need remote alerts, UPS status monitoring or controlled shutdown for servers and NAS systems.
Comparable APC UPS models
Need more capacity? Move to a higher SRT model if your rack is already near 1000W, or if you are adding servers, storage shelves or larger PoE switches.
Need longer runtime? Keep the SRT1000RMXLI and add SRT48RMBP external battery packs if the connected load is suitable and the goal is more backup time, not more output capacity.
Need only desktop PC protection? This model may be more than the requirement. A smaller APC unit may be enough for a single workstation, printer counter or reception desk.
Need full rack backup? For racks with multiple servers, storage, high PoE draw and firewall redundancy, ask for a larger APC online UPS sizing instead of forcing the load onto a 1000W unit.
