NEC phone systems Dubai — end-of-life support and migration for SL2100, SV9100 and SV9500 across the UAE

NEC Phone Systems Dubai — NEC Left. Your System Didn't.

NEC sold its last on-premises phone system in December 2024 — and on 31 March 2026, the support behind yours ended too.

The phones still work. What is gone is the safety net: no new software fixes for the SL2100, no support for DT-series handsets, no manufacturer behind a repair — and the "2030 extension" you may have read about belongs to the Americas and Australia, not the Middle East.

If your office or hotel in Dubai still runs NEC, you have two honest options: keep the system alive with disciplined third-party maintenance, or migrate on your own schedule before a failed part picks the date. Vector Digital Systems has done both since 2009.

THE DATES  ·  VERIFIED

What NEC Announced — and What Has Already Happened

NEC sold its last new on-premises phone system on 31 December 2024, and ended software maintenance for the SL2100 and support for all DT-series handsets on 31 March 2026. Here is the full sequence, verified against NEC's own lifecycle notices:

DateWhat ended
April–May 2024NEC announces full exit from on-premises phone systems outside Japan
31 December 2024End of new system and expansion sales — SL2100, SV9100, SV9500, UNIVERGE 3C
31 March 2025End of hardware shipments
31 December 2025End of Software Assurance sales; CP-10 processor support ends
31 March 2026End of SL2100 software maintenance; end of support for DT-series handsets (DT300–DT900), InHotel, InDECT and other InApps
31 March 2030Platform support ends — but only in the Americas (via Forerunner Technologies) and Australia

Read the fine print on "supported until 2030"

That extension is real — and it does not apply here. It belongs to the Americas, where a company called Forerunner Technologies bought NEC's on-premises business in February 2025, and to Australia, which received its own dates. No equivalent programme exists for the Middle East. For a business in Dubai, there is no manufacturer support path: what exists is experienced third-party maintenance and a finite pool of reseller and refurbished parts. That is the honest picture — plan around it, not around a date meant for another continent.

THE HONEST SPLIT

What Actually Ended — and What Still Works

Your NEC system did not stop working on any of those dates. Something quieter happened: the safety net was removed while the system kept running. Here is the split, without drama.

What ended

  • New systems and expansion orders — nothing can be ordered since end of 2024
  • The SL2100 factory — permanently closed; hardware now comes only from leftover stock
  • Software fixes and security patches for the SL2100
  • Support for every DT-series handset on your desks
  • InHotel, InDECT and the other built-in hospitality apps
  • The dealer network's manufacturer backing — even long-serving dealers have nothing behind them now

What still works

  • The system itself — every extension, greeting and call flow, exactly as configured
  • Your Etisalat or du lines and every phone number you publish
  • Third-party maintenance, fault repair and programming (PCPro changes)
  • Replacement parts from remaining reseller and refurbished stock
  • Your voicemail, call recording and auto-attendant recordings

Which NEC is in your rack?

The risk is not that the phones go silent tomorrow. The risk is the day a power supply or CPU card fails — and the replacement has to be hunted from a shrinking pool of leftover stock, with no manufacturer behind the repair. Businesses that plan in July pay for a migration. Businesses that wait pay for an emergency.

THE DECISION  ·  THREE QUESTIONS

Keep It or Replace It — Three Questions Decide It

Forget the technology for a moment. The maintain-or-migrate call is a business decision, and it comes down to three honest answers.

1 · How old is the system?

Under eight years and stable — maintenance has real runway. Over ten — every further year is borrowed time, and the parts pool only shrinks from here.

2 · What does one dead-phone day cost you?

An inconvenience — maintain, with a plan on the shelf. Revenue, patients, guests, orders — the risk math has already decided for you.

3 · Are you growing?

Adding people, a branch, a second site — a discontinued platform cannot grow with you. Expanding it means buying leftover stock at rising prices.

Two "maintain" answers and a stable system — Path One buys you time, cheaply. One "replace" answer and you already know — Path Two, on your schedule. Either way, our audit prices both side by side, so the decision is made on numbers, not fear.

PATH ONE  ·  MAINTAIN

Keep Your NEC Alive — Properly

Not every NEC system needs replacing this year. If yours is stable, rightly sized and doing its job, the sensible move can be disciplined maintenance — while the migration plan sits on the shelf, ready. The mistake is not maintaining an NEC. The mistake is maintaining it with no plan behind it.

Same-day fault response

  • Same-day on-site response across Dubai; remote diagnostics often fix it before a visit
  • CPU, power supply and expansion-card failures diagnosed and quoted before any part is ordered
  • Parts sourced from remaining reseller and refurbished stock — availability stated honestly, before you commit

Programming & changes (PCPro)

  • New extensions, name and display changes, ring groups, call forwarding
  • Auto-attendant menus and greetings, voicemail resets, trunk and SIP configuration
  • Most changes done remotely the same day — no site visit needed to add one staff member

Annual NEC maintenance runs AED 1,500–5,000 depending on system size — covering fault response, remote diagnostics and priority parts sourcing. The full scope is on our telephone maintenance contract page.

What actually fails first on an aging NEC, from fifteen years of opening these cabinets: power supplies, CPU cards, voicemail storage, and the backup batteries nobody has checked since installation. These four are what we source hardest — and what our audit checks first.

Indicative pricing: Prices are indicative and move with stock availability, airtime or licence plans and exchange rates. The exact current price comes via the WhatsApp quote — same working day.

The cap on this path — stated up front

Maintenance keeps your NEC running; it cannot restore manufacturer patches or guarantee parts forever. When a system becomes more risk than asset, we will say so — in writing — and show you the replacement math beside the maintenance cost. Some systems we maintain today are ones we advised replacing. The advice is free; the choice stays yours.

PATH TWO  ·  MIGRATE

Migrate on Your Schedule — Not a Failure's

Every NEC replacement we are called to starts the same way: something small failed, and the part took three weeks. The businesses that migrate calmly are the ones who moved before that day. Two replacement designs cover almost every NEC site we see in Dubai.

Owned outright — in your rack

  • Yeastar P-Series or Grandstream UCM6300 — the modern equivalent of what your NEC was
  • No per-user licence fees; the system stays yours
  • Yealink, Fanvil or Grandstream desk phones from Dubai stock
  • Mobile apps for every extension included

Your own dedicated 3CX, hosted in Dubai

  • The "cloud" experience — web client, apps, home workers — on your own dedicated instance
  • Hosted in Dubai, on licensed Etisalat or du lines — fully TDRA-compliant
  • AI receptionist and call queues built in
  • Typically a unit in your office — or your own dedicated instance hosted in Dubai; either way the system stays yours

What carries over — and what doesn't

Carries over

  • Every phone number — ported with Etisalat or du, two to four weeks, zero downtime
  • Your Cat5/Cat6 network cabling — reused in most offices
  • Analog lines and fax, through gateways where still needed
  • Your call flows — rebuilt exactly, or improved where the NEC forced workarounds

Doesn't carry over

  • DT300/DT400 digital handsets — proprietary NEC signalling; they cannot register on any non-NEC system
  • DT700/DT800 IP handsets — NEC-specific firmware, effectively locked to NEC platforms
  • Budget for new handsets is part of every honest migration quote — desk phones start around AED 120

HOW IT HAPPENS

An NEC Migration, Step by Step — No Surprises

Audit — free

An engineer documents your NEC configuration: extensions, trunks, call flows, voicemail, any PMS or CRM link. You receive the written findings either way.

One proposal, both paths priced

Maintenance and migration costed side by side — itemised, in writing. The decision is made on numbers, not fear.

Phased cutover

The new system is built alongside the old. The NEC keeps working until the replacement has passed every test; numbers port in parallel. No quiet day in between.

Training & aftercare

Your receptionist learns the console on her own desk. Same-day support after handover, maintenance contract optional.

A small office is typically live in one to two days, a 20–50 person office in two to three days, and hotels or multi-site deployments in one to three weeks, phased by area.

One sector runs on a tighter clock than any other. If your NEC runs a hotel, the next section is the one that matters.

HOSPITALITY  ·  THE TIGHTEST CLOCK

If Your NEC Runs a Hotel, the Date That Matters Already Passed

NEC was the default phone system in Gulf hospitality for twenty years — which means a large share of Dubai's hotels are running exactly the equipment this page is about. And the hospitality piece ended on the same day as everything else: InHotel — the built-in app behind guest-room billing, wake-up calls and PMS integration — lost all support on 31 March 2026.

A dead office phone is an inconvenience. A dead guest-room phone, a wake-up call that never fires, a front-desk queue that stops overflowing during check-in — those are guest-experience failures with your hotel's name on them. Hotel NEC migrations are their own discipline: phased floor by floor, cut over without a single disturbed guest, PMS integration rebuilt on the new platform before the old one is switched off.

The full hotel approach — including the NEC migration path and per-room pricing — is on our hotel phone systems Dubai page.

NEC Is Ending Everywhere — the Region's Replacements Ship From Dubai

NEC's exit is global. Every market in the region has hotels, offices and enterprises now running dead-platform systems — and the replacement platforms ship from our Dubai warehouse: Yeastar, Grandstream and 3CX systems with Yealink, Fanvil and Grandstream phones, configured before dispatch and supported remotely through the migration. On-site migration work is UAE-based; export is supply, configuration and remote engineering.

NEC DUBAI  ·  QUESTIONS

NEC End-of-Life — the Questions We Get Every Week

Is NEC still supporting phone systems in the UAE?

No. NEC exited the on-premises phone system business outside Japan: new system sales ended 31 December 2024, hardware shipments ended 31 March 2025, and software maintenance for the SL2100 plus all support for DT-series handsets and hospitality apps ended 31 March 2026. The support extension to 2030 you may have read about applies only to the Americas (through Forerunner Technologies) and Australia — no equivalent programme was ever offered for the Middle East. In the UAE, NEC systems now run on third-party maintenance and remaining parts stock.

Will my NEC phone system still work after end of life?

Yes — the phones did not stop working on any date. Your system keeps running exactly as configured. What ended is the safety net: no new software fixes for the SL2100, no handset support, and no manufacturer behind a repair. The practical risk is hardware: the SL2100 factory is permanently closed, so a failed CPU, power supply or expansion card must come from a shrinking pool of reseller and refurbished stock. The system works until the day a part fails — which is exactly when to have a plan already in place.

Is NEC going out of business?

No. NEC Corporation remains a large, diversified technology company. What ended is one product line: on-premises PBX systems (SL2100, SV9100, SV9500 and UNIVERGE 3C) outside Japan. NEC continues its cloud communications service in other markets. For a Dubai business running an on-premises NEC system, however, the practical effect is the same — the platform is discontinued and a long-term plan is needed.

Can I still get NEC support in Dubai?

Manufacturer support, no. Experienced third-party support, yes. Vector Digital Systems has worked on NEC systems in Dubai since 2009 — fault diagnosis, replacement parts from remaining reseller and refurbished stock, and full programming support. Same-day fault response across Dubai, remote diagnostics for programming issues, and annual maintenance contracts from AED 1,500 to 5,000 depending on system size. Details are on our telephone maintenance contract page.

Can you still program and make changes on my NEC system?

Yes. We program SL2100, SV9100 and SV9500 systems with NEC PCPro and web-based administration: new extensions, name and display changes, ring groups, auto-attendant menus and greetings, call forwarding, trunk and SIP configuration, voicemail resets and user moves. Most programming changes are done remotely the same day — you do not need a site visit to add a staff member or change a greeting.

Can I keep my NEC handsets when I migrate to a new system?

Almost certainly not. NEC digital handsets (DT300 and DT400 series) use proprietary signalling — they cannot register on any non-NEC system. The IP handsets (DT700 and DT800 series) run NEC-specific firmware and are effectively locked to NEC platforms. What does carry over: your phone numbers, your Cat5/Cat6 network cabling, and your existing analog lines through gateways. New desk phones start from around AED 120, and the handset plan is itemised in every migration quote.

What is the best replacement for an NEC phone system in Dubai?

For most offices replacing an SL2100 or SV9100: a Yeastar P-Series or Grandstream UCM6300 system with Yealink, Fanvil or Grandstream desk phones — owned outright, no per-user licence fees, mobile apps included. For teams wanting the fullest software experience, 3CX on your own dedicated instance hosted in Dubai. The honest answer depends on your extension count, call flows and any PMS or CRM integration — we recommend after a free audit of your current NEC configuration. The platform comparison is on our PBX phone system Dubai page.

How much does it cost to replace an NEC phone system in Dubai?

Indicative installed pricing: a small office replacing an SL2100 — up to 10 people — starts from around AED 2,500 with new desk phones. A 20 to 30 person office typically runs AED 8,000 to 15,000, and larger or multi-site SV9100 replacements from AED 25,000. Every quote is itemised — system, handsets, gateways for any analog lines, installation, number porting and training — and the price on the quote is the price on the invoice. Prices are indicative and move with stock availability and exchange rates; the exact current price comes via the WhatsApp quote, same working day.

Which areas in the UAE does Vector Digital Systems cover for NEC support and migration?

Vector Digital Systems maintains and migrates NEC phone systems across the United Arab Emirates — all seven emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain — as well as Al Ain. In Dubai we cover the main business districts and communities including Business Bay, Downtown Dubai, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), Sheikh Zayed Road, Deira, Bur Dubai, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Barsha Heights, Al Garhoud, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Al Nahda, Mirdif, Jumeirah, International City, Discovery Gardens, Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Dubai Production City, Dubai Outsource City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai Maritime City, Dubai Festival City, Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai Investment Park, Dubai South, Jebel Ali and Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA). In Abu Dhabi we serve the city plus Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Musaffah, Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD), Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and Al Reem Island. Sharjah coverage includes Sharjah Industrial Area, SAIF Zone, and Al Nahda, Sharjah; we also serve Ajman Free Zone (AFZ), Ajman Industrial Area, RAK Free Trade Zone, and the Port of Fujairah. NEC fault response is same-day across Dubai and the northern emirates, with remote programming support available UAE-wide as of 2026.

Do you export NEC replacement phone systems from Dubai?

Yes — on-site NEC migration work is UAE-based, but the replacement systems themselves are exported from Dubai to Uganda, Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nigeria, Armenia, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Malawi, Burundi, Djibouti, Togo, Benin, Gabon, Chad, Seychelles, and Angola. Yeastar, Grandstream and 3CX platforms with phones are configured and tested in Dubai, shipped with export documentation, and supported remotely through the migration.

Our hotel runs NEC with InHotel PMS integration — what happens now?

This is the most time-sensitive NEC situation in the UAE. InHotel — NEC's built-in hospitality application covering guest-room billing, wake-up calls and PMS integration — lost all support on 31 March 2026, the same date as the handsets. Guest-facing call flows cannot wait for a part to fail. Hotel migrations are their own discipline: phased by floor, cut over without disturbing guests, PMS integration rebuilt on the new platform. The full hotel approach is on our hotel phone systems page.

Can I keep my phone numbers when replacing an NEC system?

Yes. Your numbers stay with you — they belong to your Etisalat or du account, not to the NEC system. We coordinate the porting or re-termination with the carrier, which typically takes two to four weeks with your trade licence and account documents. Your published numbers never change; customers notice nothing except faster answers.

Should I keep maintaining my NEC system or replace it now?

It depends on three things: the system's age, how much a dead phone day would cost you, and your growth plans. Maintain if the system is stable, rightly sized, and a day's downtime is an inconvenience — with a migration plan on the shelf. Replace now if you are growing, if you have already had one parts-related failure, if you run a hotel or call-dependent operation, or if the system is over ten years old. Every proposal we write prices both paths side by side — maintenance and migration — so the decision is made on numbers, not fear.

Can I still buy an NEC phone system in Dubai?

Only leftover stock. Nothing new has shipped since March 2025, so any NEC system offered today is remaining reseller inventory or refurbished equipment — with no manufacturer behind it and no expansion path when you grow. We will source an NEC unit or expansion card when it is genuinely the right answer for keeping an existing system alive, but we will not sell you a discontinued platform as a new investment. If someone quotes you a new NEC system in 2026, ask what happens the year after you buy it.

Do you supply NEC spare parts and handsets?

Yes — from the remaining reseller and refurbished market. We source SL2100 and SV9100 CPUs, power supplies and expansion cards, DT-series handsets, and voicemail storage, with availability stated honestly before you commit and every part quoted before ordering. Supply is finite and shrinking, which is exactly why every maintenance client also gets a migration plan on the shelf.
